Woman Kept Off American Airlines Plane For Allegedly Offensive Shirt

Recommended Posts

Where the right to believe stone age crap is defended and the right to protest against it is not

Utter bullcrap. You are talking severe amounts of **** right there. Protesting is all well and good. This is a private airline, not a public place. They have their own rules, and the woman in question was made fully aware of them. She doesn't have to follow them, she has every right to opt out of their rules and not use their service, which is what she did.

She chose to not use their service by not following their rules, pure and simple.

Religion has absolutely zero to do with this.

So if they had a rule set that said "no Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, or Buddhists" do you think they'd escape being censured for that as well?

She got what she deserved. Why does she need to A) Voice her opinion about something on a t-shirt that has an offensive vulgar word on it, and B) Wear that shirt on a plane with other passengers.

This is the problem with some people. They only think about their rights, but never about responsibility. She knew the rules and decided that she'd ignore them anyway. What a wack job.

So if... blah blah blah and the moon was red and shoes were made of toasters and my arse shot rainbows!

They don't, and they are 100% incomparable arguments. However, let's humour your pointless argument and say they did have such a rule... The company would have the arse-end sued off them, they would be up in front of congress and they would no longer be allowed to trade as a company within America.

So basically you're saying it should be OK for them to discriminate against people arguing against religious ideas, but not people that believe them? honesty at last.

Bunch of prudes in neowin lately... all for censorship of the greatest kind. You people are seriously making me regret staying here if opinions are going to be as closed minded as they are. It's a shirt, get over it. If you are this easily offended and disgusted, you should stop going outside. Don't bar others from it just because you have the mentality of a 5 year old girls opinion about bugs.

Your attitude is refreshing. It's a shame it doesn't rub off onto others.

Its quite simple and has already been explained, the woman in question joined a communial form of transport which has clearly stated will not allow possibly offensive clothing to be worn what ever that form may take.It has nothing at all to do with race creed or colour and to say otherwise is just twisting the argument away from the facts. She could have complied with these regulations which applied to all passengers not just her,or chose a service which wasnt so regulatory. As with most wingers she chose not to and complained about the way she got treated because of it.

You dont like a sevice dont use it and it will quickly close if the community vote goes your way but to complain because of such a closed minded attitude to others feelings is ludicrous.

If I went on an American plane with a t bearing the wording "All American Women are Fat and Ugly" do you think Id even get through the gate or is her political belief better than my non-belief?

If this same kind of censorship was done either in public by government, or against a Christian there'd be a long queue of people complaining about it. It seems to me that Americans are so pumped full of corporatist dogma that they're prepared to excuse corporations for almost any unfair behaviour.

You really are full of it. I never said, implied, suggested or in any way inferred such an idea.

I personally care little about the shirt - I'd see it and just think "Wow, classy </sarcasm>". What this is about is her using "censorship" as an argument that doesn't rightly fit.

Company prioviding service has rules.

Customer refuses to follow rules.

Company refuses use of service.

How much more simple does it need to be? Religion, personal opinion, race, shoe size and how your **** smells has nothing to do with it.

Won't someone please think of the CHILDREN!??

I already do, as do most other people. I choose to not swear in front of children, sue me! Moreover, my children will be brought up with the same moral stand point of respecting others. My not swearing offends nobody.

We are not talking censorship we are talking respect for the other customers and the rules of the service she used.Your just using a big wooden spoon to stir up a hornets nest out of thin air.

The truth is the truth, if it annoys people that's their problem not mine. People in the US do defend corporations, often against all reason. It's also true that most Americans are obsessively prudish as a T-Shirt like that almost anywhere in Europe wouldn't even bother most of the travelling public. I'm just calling reality as I see it, I'm not going to be PC because you find reality annoying.

Your adding emotions where there are none I have no feeling one way or the other in this regard Im merely sticking to the facts which seem to elude some here.

I'm not trying to elude the facts, I simply happen to disgaree with the argument that corporations should be free to discriminate over things that are so inane and stupid.

Talk a lot, say very little... You seem very full with your own importance. Either way, your points are 100% invalid. This is about a service providers rule and a woman choosing not to abide by the rule and opting not to accept the service.

Yeah, because I disagree with you I simply must be in love with myself, huh? *sigh*

No, because you seem to judge so heavily, because you are pushing your own agenda here that has nothing to do with the subject at hand, because you are ignoring facts about what (reportedly) happened and seem to wish to take this wholly off-topic and make it about censorship, religion, nationality...

*sigh*

Proven my point right there about being full of yourself

Point made again! Very much full of your own self-importance! But thank you nonetheless for wasting your precious time, it's been enlightening :)
