I'm hoping that the makers of programs like RT 7 Lite find a way to do it. If Microsoft hard code it into other system DLL's like they did with the CP, it will be impossible to remove.

At this point, I've stopped caring haha. I know MS won't allow for disabling it, I know this is the direction they want to go. However I will stick with last years model (windows 7) as it does what I want, how I want, and does it as I want.

Yet you care enough to often come into Windows 8 related news/threads and repeat I will stay with 7 as if Microsoft doesn't remove metro.

So the Windows 8 sub-forum and threads should only be used by people who love Metro and can't wait to upgrade? Defeats the purpose of a discussion forum in my view...

Well, it would be nice to discuss Windows 8 without the redundancy of "I hate Metro, I think it sucks, I use Windows 7!" That's great, but it adds nothing to the discussion, and only serves as flame bait. Windows 8 isn't Windows 7, so if you're not using it, then why are people here posting about it? It would cut down on the amount of clutter we have to dig through to reach a relevant response or thought.

It's the same as me going into the Mac forums and posting how much I hate Macs, and repeatedly declare that I use Windows 7. Since I do not use Macs, I have no business being in that part of the boards.

You and the other apologists are the only ones erecting that strawman. You surely didn't have a response for me and only things you can graft into that false equation seem to get thread time from you.

Apologists? Wow. A new low. Listen, if you would rather prefer to sit and double click all over your computer, than now is the time to put away your computer and never touch it again. Computing is heading in new directions, They're becoming simpler and more interactive. Sorry if that bothers you, but it's where its going.

You'll notice that there was no actual reply to any of my prior points there, just more claims that if its too loud, we're too old.

Now you support the death of the double-click! And sitting! You old fashioned idiots, we'll be gravitically supported by the majesty of Metro Start at all times.

Note that Metro style UI does kill double click though :) Instead of double click to activate, single click for single select and Ctrl-click for multiselect, it's now left click to activate and right click for both single select and multiselect. Personally I think they should use this scheme for Explorer on the desktop too, both for consistency and because it's just easier. (If they want to have a context menu in addition to the AppBar - which could be used on desktop too, like the Mac OS menu bar - they could use something like the Office transparent minitoolbar.)

Change != Improvement...

I'm not saying the Metro and its start screen brings nothing new to the table, it brings a lot to the table for tablets, but I don't feel it is ready for the desktop yet. It might be with Windows 9, we shall see, but interim releases like this are always problematic. Vista was hated for the same reason, it was an interim release for a new paradigm (secure computing) and it took until Windows 7 to get ironed out.

In your usage case the Metro Start Screen may not impair your usability at all. I would go as far as saying that the majority of consumers won't be impacted by it, after the initial training adjustment, and could be why you aren't impacted either. Windows is used by more than just consumers though. There is a wide gamut of users with varying levels of sophistication in how they use their computer. I find the more sophisticated a power user you are the most problematic Metro is for you.

I haven't done so in a long time, and my posting in this thread was a response to someone saying that only stupid people will stay with windows 7.

What? So anyone who doesn't like Windows 8's interface (notice how people don't bash windows 8, but the interface) should be barred from the Windows 8 section? And going into a completely different companies forum and bashing it is no where near being in the same companies section, talking about the successor to the current operating system.

It would be the same as going into an OSX thread and saying how 10.6 is far superior to 10.7.. not going into an OSX thread and saying Windows is better.

I myself have seen this many times, I've asked for a reason, or asked a hardcore supporter a question and the post is never answered. It's not written in a mean way it's a legitimate question.. but because no answer can be given it's ignored.

Sucks that there's no support for multiselect for pinning from the Apps screen (like there is for unpinning from the Start screen), though. Hope that gets added for RP, along with context actions in the Files search screen (Open Location, etc.)

Yet another thread derailed by all the Windows 8 haters arguing about the same old thing.
