Illinois Lottery to add Powerball on-line ticket sales

Recommended Posts

Powerball would be added to the mix of lottery games that Illinois offers online under legislation that squeaked through the House Monday.

The multi-state Powerball game would join Lotto and Mega Millions, the two games Illinois put online in March when it became the first state in the nation to sell lottery tickets by Internet.

Dismissing opposition, Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, said the measure simply adds a third game online rather than opening the door to widespread gambling that the bill's foes feared.

"We're not reinventing the wheel," Lang said.

The bill moved to the Senate 62-47, only two votes above the bare minimum needed for passage. The measure also calls for a study on how online lottery sales impact convenience stores and other retailers that sell lottery tickets.

Call it what you want but it seems like gambling to me.

^ So is getting in your car ...

Yeah, everthing is to a certain extent, but gambling with money is the same regardless of whether you buy a lottery ticket or go to a casino, it seems to me.

^ I don't see buying a ticket or two as gambling.

If you are skipping the rent, house, car payment, letting your kids starve to bet 100's, then yeah there's a problem.

Going after a job, getting an education, wooing a romantic interest, all involve a risk.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. ;)
