Here I am ready to install the RP on my laptop, that is CURRENTLY running the CP, and when I start the installation for it, the first thing that comes up is this:

"This PC can't run Windows 8" "Your PC's CPU isnt compatible with Windows 8."

Ok, so I'm completely taken aback at the sheer absurdity of this situation, and cant seem to find anyone else with this issue.

So is this just some moronic issue with the installer or did some genius at MS decide to just drop CPU support between the CP and RP for giggles?

Have you attempted to boot from a DVD or Flash drive with the installer and see if the message comes up that way? They have stated the whole way through if your Computer runs 7 it will run 8.

you need to enable Execution Protection/No Execute/Execute Disable Bit in your BIOS

Does it **** anyone else off that a guy posts such a problem WITHOUT MENTIONING WHAT FREAKING CPU HE HAS??

It wouldn' be the first time that minimum specs change between a beta and a near-final/final build...if I recall, the GMA900 chip initially worked with Aero in Vista, but support was dropped by the time Vista RTM came out.

I like how the OP instead of explaining his issue in a rational manner immediately craps all over Microsoft assuming that they are the cause.
Classy.
He should fit in quite nicely here at Neowin.

I'm sorry. I didnt think that an OS that ran fine with one release would NOT run with the next, so I wasnt thinking I needed to emote my entire specs sheet as something like this is completely stupid and Microsoft didnt feel the need to tell anyone that "hey, if you are running the CP, there is a chance that the RP wont work because we just decided that we didnt care".

Please post your system specs or nobody will be able to assist you.

Did the OP download the 64-bit version of Win8 by chance?

That CPU should work. Are you trying to do a clean install from the distribution media or an upgrade?

Are you trying to install x86 or x64?
Maybe that processor lacks Execution Protection/No Execute/Execute Disable Bit

If you have downloaded 64bit, try using a 32bit version.
