so I was thinking about setting up an official minecraft server for neowin

what would everyone think of that?

I would have a few mods on the server so I'd supply a custom client file already modded so you guys won't have to mess with it (mostly things like buildcraft and smarter moving, the good popular ones)(nukes disabled lol)

I don't have a job right now so it'd be nice to have some help paying for use of the host so i I do get this up and going I'd have a donate button here

but first I'd like to know if people are even interested :)

Best Regards,
Brandon

Yea sure. I couldn't support it financially (though I would if I could), but I'd definitely be interested.

but there's none that have been named official, the only other server i've heard mentioned on the forums here is dynamic-squid or something like that

Yes but my only request would not be carebares for us server, i prefer pvp and at least fairly hard difficulty. Factions is OK but gets kind of boring since your always safe but a /home and /spawn with a safe spawn would be good. Disable TNT maybe too but just thoughts. Creative is fun for about 15 minutes and the three hundred meters of space you just ocupied with some build and then its just meh IMO. No office to anybody who likes creative more but it is just a thought.

If there is going to be server, it has to be diverse. Neowin members all have very different opinion and style. It would be best if you went with a server with 2 different worlds, one for survival, and one for creative.

Griefer protection is a must. Generally, best strategy is to have anything built be only destructible by mods. Permissions for stuff should be acquirable probably too.

Also, with such things there should be guarantees - if server goes dead, usually the work a player put into it is lost forever - this is bad.

Also some servers simply remove you, and sometimes your structures, if you don't play for some time... this is bad, I take 3-6 month breaks from servers only to come back to realize that I need to re-register and so forth.

That was the plan, You gotta love the multi-world plugin :)

yes there will be some kind of griefer protection, and i'd probably make a backup every few days as you never know when something could break (trust me, i've had experience with that before, it's not pretty)

aslo, I've never been apart of a server that removes you and your structures for not being on enough before, honestly that sounds kind of rude on the server owners part to me, I would never do anything like that

I'm going to guess this is a no go then since there hasn't been much feedback?

oh well, it was worth a try anyway :)
