Another discount Federal HST ammo

Recommended Posts

Another silver-box Federal HST available at discount stores. Running about $25 to $30 for a box of 50.

.357 SIG 125 grain

Box number: XM357SHA

1,375 fps = 525 lbf of energy

The .357 SIG is used by the US Federal Air Marshal Service and Secret Service, among others, because it's less likely to over-penetrate vs. its parent - the .40 S&W - and other large calibers.

A wicked defense round it was created by SIG Sauer in an effort to reproduce the ballistics of the .357 Magnum in an automatic cartridge. SIG did this by necking down the .40 S&W case to take the lighter .357 bullet. As such most .40 S&W auto's can be adapted to shoot it by simply swapping in a new barrel, and sometimes a new recoil spring - generally a 2 minute job.

Does that gel simulate a human body? Wow, totally underestimated the damage a bullet does!

I'm starting to find guns and ammo a lot more interesting now I've left the "Guns are bad" ideaology behind. There's a lot more into it than I realised.

This is what annoys me about Shooting Ranges in Australia. Obviously guns are highly regulated here, and from the few licensed Shooting Ranges there are which are open to the public, it's hellishly expensive. Admittedly I haven't seen many, but from what I have seen It costs about $250 for the privilege to fire 10 shots at a stationary target. Maybe they are just adding insane markup but I am not going to pay $25 per shot with a minimum of 10 shots just to know what it feels like to fire a gun. Are there shooting ranges available in the US for non-citizens to have a few shots in a controlled environment?

There are public ranges for the general public to rent guns and shoot targets. Costs less then 50$ depending on the place. I have a private club I goto. But granted I use my own guns and ammo

Yes, there's a lot more to them than meets the eye. That gel is indeed a tissue simulant and the addition of 4 layers of denim simulates clothing and is the FBI test standard.

The .357 SIG is in a class of cartridges which produce a pressure wave of over 1,000 PSI when the bullet is so designed; Federal HST, Winchester Ranger etc.

This virtually guarantees hydrostatic shock - remote wounding from the pressure wave alone. Such cartridges can actually break bones without touching them and cause a water hammer effect in the circulatory system that can cause a severe concussion or stroke in the brain from a torso hit.

Examples: .357 SIG, FN 5.7 mm, 10 mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP

Pressure waves between 500 and 1,000 psi are more or less likely to do such damage. Cartridges like the .44 mag usually enter and exit before their energy can be completely absorbed.

Dane: we pay $16 / hour and renting a gun is about $10-20, depending on type.
