Windows 8 Release Preview Gaming Issue

Recommended Posts

So I installed the release preview last week and decided to try some Red Orchestra 2 (Unreal Engine 2 I believe, not sure).

There seems to be an issue that wasn't present in the consumer preview: When playing, it is like the Windows 8 magic corners are active behind the scene. When moving the mouse fast to the lower left corner for example, and then clicking, I get tossed out to the desktop and then right back into the game.

I get a few issues similar to this, that I believe have to do with the magic corners somehow interfering with the game. And as I said, I had no problems like this with the Consumer Preview.

I've tried with the default included GFX drivers, and also with the ones AMD released when the Release Preview got out and both have the problem, so I don't think this issue is related to the GFX drivers.

Has anyone else experienced issues like this, perhaps in other games? Has anyone got a solution or suggestion to a solution?

Thanks.

I had a similar issue with the Developer Preview but it was corrected by the Consumer Preview. Considering the changes that have been made with the RP it sounds like a similar thing has occurred again. I haven't come across it myself but I imagine it will be corrected by release.

I had this problem to with some older games (Age of Empires II and Stronghold) not sure if this happened in any other build because I didn't spend time trying games on those.

Magic corners in games could be really annoying but it depends on the game. (I can run all games in 800x600)

I didn't have this problem with Crysis but I'll try it with Red Orchestra and let you know

For Crysis, the hot corners didn't even work from the menu (I'd hoped they would)
