Just bought TechNet Standard... Will I get Windows 8?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a TechNet Standard subscription :D

When Windows 8 is released, will it be added to my subscription for me to download? Or will I not get it until I resubscribe? Either way I intend to buy the retail version. I'm just looking to use TechNet for what it is intended for -- evaluating it.

I got Technet last year too, in October so i'm hoping it comes before then even though i'm sure to renew anyways (business subscription :D) Definitely gonna get my Windows 8 from it but just still not sure how much i'm liking Win8 (still) right now. :ermm:

Gotta admit, I have to wonder why you bought something before you knew if it offered what you were seeking...

Well, I really just needed some of the current products. I don't need Windows 8. Just was curious.

Yes, Technet is cheaper now but you get fewer licenses than you did in the past.

Also, what MSDN licenses do you think are retail? I must admit I haven't looked into this for a while but my understanding is that all MSDN licenses are developer licenses (i.e. they should only be used on development hardware) and no more "retail" than Technet licenses.

Premium and ultimate will have software that you can use in production environment. The base subscription can only be used on development hardware as you have mentioned.

I got the Visual Studio Premium with MSDN for few years. The good part is it also include free Azure

and btw, only 1 license can be used as retail copy for some of the software per license.
