I have a feeling they are not as tech savvy as they claim to be.

In fairness to some, they are complaining for the sake of their moms, grandmas, or customers for IT support.

I have been using Win 8 since the DP as a primary desktop and there are still things in RTM that make me feel like why does this take so much to do, or why did they do it this way it was faster before... etc...

Like what? I might have some quick shortcuts to help speed up what you're doing... :)

I'd have to be using it right now and run into them to think of it *lol* I haven't been keeping notes on it, just when I do something and it feels odd I think that... I think a lot of the keyboard shortcuts are what bugs me as "fixes" for odd mouse / touch interactions... when you have bad fingers comments like just do this and type! kinda makes you grr when people say it.. i really off the top of my head don't like the "hover areas" like the start screen, just such a small area you have to hit in RDP it drives me nuts when trying to do stuff as mouse only as possible..

typing code for 20 years does put a bit of wear on your fingers... :(

Indeed it does. If you happen to run into any, feel free to PM me. I don't mind handing out tips & tricks :)

Just a thought, why not run a couple of tips and tricks article to help people (like me) who are a little slow on the uptake. It really could help some of those who are trying to learn Win 8. :)

Still not tech savvy in that case too. If my non-tech friends or family wanted to know how to shut down in Windows 8, I'd tell them to use the really obvious method that works in all versions of Windows back to Windows 95 - press the power button, not try to overthink it and find new Start menu replacements or new Shutdown shortcuts.

It's really not that hard to shutdown/restart in Windows 8, and doesn't take "more time" as some claim. It literally takes like 2 seconds depending on method.

  1. Alt + F4 on the desktop
  2. Charms Bar > Settings > Power
  3. Sign Out > Power Button on bottom of screen
  4. Tap the Physical Power Button on the PC

are you for real or just trolling. haha. You funny

Stardock just made this thread nonessential. . .they have put out a new verison of Start8. However, some good points and ideas were brought out here.

Seriously, were you having a problem figuring out how to shut down/restart? I really want to know. Given your complete and grammatically correct sentences, I really want to know if "you" had trouble shutting down in Windows 8.

Having said that, I have started trying to close desktop applications by dragging them to the bottom of the screen :/. No matter what anyone says, apps need to be closed. The more Modern apps you use, the app bar gets filled and switching apps or just finding the one you want is a cluster. Then you go to the desktop and start closing the Modern app way which obviously doesn't work. There will be issues on the desktop, I just don't see this as one of them.

I'll tell you what smart A** as I have told others when you have had a stroke plus two mini-strokes come talk to me about how hard it is to even remember how to spell little own remember all the in's and out's of being grammatically correct. It must be nice to have a truly perfecting operating brain . .

I actually was not attacking you personally, not sure why you took it that way. I really wanted to know if someone who takes the time to write properly, most Neowinians use shorthand and typos most of the time, myself included, was "really" having a problem with it. I think most are just complaining because they're not happy with MS not giving them options.

I thought I might find out if it "really" was a problem for people of pretty fair intelligence. If so, it might "be" a problem even though I don't see it as one. I'll take your response as a yes, yes it is.
