GLENDORA, CA (KABC) -- A 13-year-old girl in Glendora is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull at her father's home.

The attack happened on the 900 block of East Myrtle Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.

The girl was with her 10-year-old and 1-year-old brothers.

Two pit bulls lived at the home.

Glendora Police say officers shot the dog that attacked the girl, but the dog still ran away. The dog was killed when another officer ran the animal over with his car, fearing it was a threat to others.

The girl is expected to be OK.

The second pit bull was taken away by Animal Services.

That's a bit beyond the pale :\

Seems cruel to run over the animal when they could have attempted to put it down more.. humanely..

Either way, glad the girl is ok.

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is the animal, the dog or the police?

Why didn't he set it on fire afterwards and taze it too... I mean you can never be too sure

Doesn't seem like there's really enough information to judge the exact situation here.

What if there were people around and the only way to safely prevent it from being a danger was to run it over, instead of pulling out the gun and trying to aim at a dog running away.

Wonder if the cop would like being run over, if he shot someone ...

He did the right thing. If there was people around then using a gun would be too much risk. A front confrontation against an animal with tons of pressure in its jaws would be a suicide, and awaiting for backup would mean the girl's death.

Seriously people, you put the life of a pitbull over the life of a girl?

You weren't there. A dangerous animal is even more dangerous when injured and I would have done the same thing.

In the end; it's just an animal. I can't understand how people care more about an animal than a human being.

I have dogs and am a vegetarian due to not agreeing with the killing of animals......that being said, I don't blame the officer. Pitbulls can be lethal. It had already attacked someone and is now probably ****ed off due to being shot and could have lashed out at any other residents it encountered.

Some, but what about the girl? Do you know her personally?
