Transferring data to Windows via USB

Recommended Posts

Basically I need to transfer about 300gb of data to a Windows PC thats not connected to my network, I have a 1TB usb HDD so that's not really an issue, apart from I'm not sure how to format it in that:

NTFS - Read only on the mac where the data is, but both can read

HFS+ Can be written to by the mac but Windows can't read it

FAT - Both can read and write to it but it won't create a large enough partition

ExFat - Can create a large enough partition, but I'm not sure if Windows XP can read it like my Windows 7 PC can.

Windows, Mac and Linux can all read FAT and ExFAT. ExFAT is the best option here and Windows XP can read this as long as it's up to date.

Worst case, create a 100MB FAT32 Partition on the start of the USB Hard Drive with this system update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955704

Once installed, XP can read ExFAT and thus the other 300GB.
