RIP...

But

Yeah gave people a reason to let people riot and get free stuff. You never hear anything about that truck driver that got beat ( by 6 black guys) and almost died.
[/quote]
He didn't start the riots, and I'm not praising the riots as being a good thing at all either. But you cannot ignore that what happened because of this event and because of the riots truly revolutionized many areas of society in which we consider normal now. Can you believe that it was only 20 years ago that a black man was afraid of getting pulled over because he'd be beaten and tortured to death? That happened, and this ****ed off enough people to demand change.

Demand change? A white guy was beaten to death by a hispanic cop recently in your state and it hardly made anything but the local news but of course it wasn't white on black so who cares if you can't play the race card.

I think if you don't know his name, he's not well known enough for a mention :)

Yes you are right he is not a famous celebrity like Rodney King.

This is a bunch a hogwash. Martin Luther King (no relation) was murdered in the 60's and he did bring freedom to Black people but the problem is that you want change in a flash of a second. Did you ever stop and think that Black peoples relatives in Africa are to this day selling their own people into slavery as they did 300 years ago? So what have they learned? Nothing!

Are you really saying that all black people have relatives in Africa? Do you also think that these same people who are selling their own people into slavery, keep up with US news?

This post reeks of racism and ignorance.

I will not be surprised at all when the autopsy results come back and say he was high as a kite, again, when he died.

Well, you may be right about that, here's an article from TMZ, but I'll wait until the official word comes out, and not something his fianc

No I am not but the majority of Blacks in this country have ancestors that dated back to the slave trade in Africa. This thread does not reek of racism but it does reek of historical ignorance. If you do not believe that the majority of blacks in The US are descendants of slaves then why all of the talk of restitution? You people do not have a clue? My God ask Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or find yourself a damn Black History book. Tell me that Rodney King led an exemplary life and did good for his people. He was a damn drug using criminal./

And what does that have to do with anything??
He was beaten by racist police officers, and event that really put the issue right infront of the people who had just been ignoring it for too long.
So of course his death is going to be newsworthy.
No one is saying he was a great role model or whatever.

I am already dieing. The cancer in me is slowly eating away at me each and every day. When I say people die every day that is not meant as a bad thing just the way of life. I did not see anything in the papers when my mother died or my father either. I lost a sister last August and again there was a lack of news on that day. So, get a life, we all die just some sooner than others.

Dude struggled with some serious inner demons. I am pretty sure most people would have in his situation as well. Not to many people wind up becoming the symbol for an entire movement. He did.

And what prompted the police to beat him senseless at this point is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is it happened.

Another fact of the matter is at the time his trial brought to light some very serious issues between the police officers and the African American community in Los Angeles.
So much so, that when the police officers involved in the beating were acquitted, riots broke out in Los Angeles.

I was a senior in high school, and it was some very, very real **** to be seeing on the television.
At that point in time, Rodney King became more than just a person. He became a symbol. Right or wrong, again, that is the fact of the matter.

Because all of the above is how it all went down, his death is indeed very relevant.

Those saying otherwise are truly ignoring the facts of the matter. Again, I do not care if you believe he deserved to get beaten or not. As I said, he is part of recent American history. A dark part at that. So his death is news, way more so then the countless of other people that happened to have also died yesterday in the world. None of those people had a direct relationship to an event that forever altered history in Los Angeles, and for that matter, the United States.

As you have just proved. What you have just said is the most ignorant thing I have ever heard on the net., Yes Rodney King led a steler life he probably never earned a dollar working in his life. He was plain trash plain and simple. Should he have been beaten by the Police? No .At best this was a two line story on the last page of the National Enquirer. His death was as relevant as all of the inmates that passed away in prison today.

Learn how to read and understand the written word. Now I am done with this nonsense. The Guy is dead, may he rest in peace as he is no longer costing the tax payer money. RIP Rodney King. BTW, The cops that beat him long ago payed for their crimes.

What? How was he costing the tax payers money exactly?

The cops paid nothing. They got off free and clear. They should have been beaten to the same degree they beat Mr. King. Or worse. Maybe that would have been news worthy enough for you.

I understand the written word, Maybe you should learn how to write it. The only nonsense here is your ignorance.

I still don't get over the fact that people protested back then by robing and destroying others' property.

You're such an wonderful human being.

The guy died, at least feel a little sympathy - he was hardly a murderer.

If he used drugs then he don't need sympathy. If he was clean then perhaps i would care about him.

I guess you don't care about a pretty large part of your own country then. As I can assure you a **** ton of people do it that you wouldn't even expect.

I don't understand the flat 'if he used drugs then no sympathy' thing.. surley if he abused drugs, at the detriment of other aspects of his life (which may be true in this case) then no sympathy. Not just a user...

Some of my good friends, and even myself in the past, used drugs for recreation.. This might be smoking, or mdma etc but would you have no sympathy if I died? We all lead a full life, have decent jobs, and pay our taxes etc, I honestly don't understand your mentality.

I've said it before in this thread, people need to grow up... it's not just black and white.
