Ghost Recon Online closed beta begins

The first closed-beta keys for Ubisoft/Red Storm Publishing (Tom Clancy)'s entry into the F2P space - GHOST RECON ONLINE - are being sent.

I have absolutely zero idea what metrics are being used, as while I did register interest in getting in on the beta, and have previous beta-testing experience, none of it was for Ubisoft - in fact, the only other Red Storm game I have any experience with is the original Rainbow Six (back in 2000) - and that was LAN MP, not Internet MP.

So they are releasing a f2p game that directly competes with their paid game Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? Seems kind of odd to do that.
