How Apple Brainwashes Its Store Employees

Recommended Posts

If you are not making more than $60k a year designing you are doing it wrong buddy or you are not charging properly. I made over $100k just designing websites when I was starting out. Granted, I was mostly working with agencies (contract work) and not a full time salary. Full time salary is ALWAYS a grind and a ripoff for designers (unless you are Creative Director/Art Director but you really can't have that title until you have worked/managed teams and have years of experience under your belt).

Hell, at the very beginning I was making sites for $2-$3k a site and I did about 2-3 a month and was still making far more than $60k a year.

To start with, your first line in your paragraph was horribly condescending ... watch how you word your answers to people regarding this kind of thing in future. You sounded hugely egotistical and like you were bragging.

As it stands, I didn't say I wasn't earning 60K or more ... I am on over double that. But Store employee's on 60K was the shocker. A BIG shocker.

EDIT:

Just pulled this from the net:

  • Apple Genius Average Salary: $37,954
  • Apple Genius Low-End salary: $32,000 ? this is likely the starting salary for most Apple Genius positions in smaller to medium sized cities
  • Apple Genius High-End Salary: $49,000 ? with more experience and working in a larger city (New York, San Francisco, etc), Apple Genius?s earn significantly more.

Reminds me when a friend started working at McDonnalds as a temp job and the managers talked about being a family. American companies are just terrible like that. Gimme a break, family.

that's odd, because the current trend in stores like McDonalds, Hallmark, etc is you are not family, you can be replaced easly... heard that line from corporate heads too much lately

Verizon sales rep starting at $60k... try starting out at $21k with an average of $35k

http://www.glassdoor...alaries-E89.htm

that matches more like our local verizon wireless stores pay $20-$30k starting, I don't know where people are making $60k+ at that job, especially around here where the average household is $28.5k

30k??? how expensive is to live over there that 30k a year is considered low??

$30k is considered almost poverty level if you are a family of two.... a single person can live comfertably on it with no big purchases... heck with two people it can be hard living on $60k if you have to pay for housing, food, taxes, other living expenses, utilities...

but he's completely right. a single person could probably comfortably on $30k a year, but it'd be very difficult to raise a child or support a spouse.

If you salary is $30k/yr, you'll only be taking home about $22.5k after income tax. That's $1875 a month to support a child, or a spouse, and yourself. Now imagine a $500/mo rent, plus bills, utilities, loans, debt, food...
