JK Rowling has announced that her new novel The Casual Vacancy will be published on September 27.

The author, who relaunched her official website this afternoon, confirmed that she was working on a story "very different" to the Harry Potter series earlier this year.

Published by Little, Brown and Company, The Casual Vacancy will be Rowling's first tale for adults

In the publication announcement, the first details of the book's plot were confirmed.

Quote

"When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

"Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils... Pagford is not what it first seems.

"And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?"

The book will be published worldwide in the English language on e-book, unabridged audio download and CD on Thursday, September 27.

Not my type of book at all, but I'll still probably read it. Rowling has proven to be such a terrific writer--I love how she can weave a story together.

I don't think the word war is meant to be taken literally.

You talk like GoT is the only novel series that talks about these themes or at least the only one that should talk about them.

Title is somewhat misleading, my first thought was, "What the hell?" "A pornographic novel?" A novel for adults, as opposed to an "adult" novel! :D

I know it, but the thematic is the same.

+1 :shiftyninja:

I only bothered clicking, because I thought that once in a while a proper erotic novel would get released by a writer that has actual skills...

Not saying there aren't good erotic novels, but IMHO - I personally - have to seek for them.
