AdverseDeviant
I have a windows 2008 domain up and going with a mix of xp and win7 clients in the network. For some reason, random users get a temporary profile error that looks like this. Ive researched it and found for some its google updater and for others its a registry key in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList that you have to delete. ive followed both instructions and the problem still occurs. the only way weve been getting around it is to format the computer but this is unrealistic. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is doing this? Thanks.
Aergan
Do you have roaming profiles? If yes: Profile NTUSER.DAT is locked or in the process of being unloaded when a user logs in, thus temp profile NTUSER.DAT is corrupted and Windows is unable to continue loading it Profile structure has incorrect or invalid permissions DNS or general network issue, unable to resolve or timeout in resolving path to profile AntiVirus software is scanning the NTUSER.dat within the profile at user login, thus locked or causing a massive delay Mixing operating systems with the same roaming profile is an extremely bad idea. Either restrict users to what devices / OS they are using or use a profile manager solution to split into WinXPProfile\UserName & Windows7Profile\UserName If no: Profile NTUSER.DAT is locked or in the process of being unloaded when a user logs in, thus temp profile NTUSER.DAT is corrupted and Windows is unable to continue loading it Profile structure has incorrect or invalid permissions Default profile is broken or contains invalid settings causing long term issues for users Users are not logging off correctly -> profile locked / corrupted
