When 9-month-old terrier mix “Lyssa” was brought to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in May she was at death’s door.

The young dog’s pink-colored ears and playful demeanor belied a fatal heart condition known as Patent Ductus Arteriosus, which if left untreated is always fatal.

Dr. Cindi Cox of the MSPCA's Glazer Clinic, which meets the medical needs of homeless animals, knew Lyssa would make the perfect pet if she could receive life-saving heart surgery to cure her condition.

The surgery involved placing a specially designed plug into the end of one of Lyssa’s heart vessels, which stops the leak and cures the condition.

Dr. nancy Laste performed the delicate two-hour operation on June 20 and, incredibly, Lyssa was up and running the next day.

After a short recuperation Lyssa was adopted by Kellie Olsen and her mother Janet, both of Medford. The women were moved by the dog's story of abandonment and sickness.

Restores my faith in humanity - almost.

A tortured dog was found yesterday somewhere in DFW. His mouth was taped shut and some ******* pulled his tongue out so it looked like the tongue of a boot hanging out 8"

Thankfully someone donated $20,000 anonymously and there are another $20,000 from other people to give the dog the treatment it needs and a reward for any information leading to the arrest(s) of the person or people responsible -

WTF is wrong with someone to hurt an animal which strives for our affection, and in return gives a life of loyalty ? Seriously

When I see pet abuse it flat out makes my blood boil & my ears smoke.

Still, this is a heartwarming story, and that is one damned cute puppy.
