Man accidentally eats steel bristle during BBQ

Recommended Posts

TACOMA ? A Tacoma man had a health scare over the weekend, and it all had to do with a recent barbecue at his house.

Adam Wojtanowicz says his stomach pain would just not go away.

?I would say it was more like being stabbed in the gut,? says the 31-year-old. He says after antibiotics and medication didn?t ease the pain, he went to Tacoma General Hospital on Sunday.

Physicians performed a CAT scan, and Dr. Steve Norton looked at it. He had recently read a story about the danger posed by barbecue grill brushes, and knew exactly what he was looking at.

?You can see a metallic object,? said Norton as he looked at the cat scan. He performed emergency surgery on Wojtanowicz, and pulled out a thin, metal bristle from his intestinal tract.

Adam says he recently hosted a barbecue at his house, and the steel bristle from his grill brush likely fell on to his steak. He says he probably swallowed it without knowing.

The CDC says it knows of at least six people who have recently suffered similar injuries from brush bristles. It does not blame a particular brand or type of brush.

?This is a huge public safety issue,? says Norton, who says if untreated, the bristle could lead to internal intestinal leakage resulting in death. ?I?m now going to think every time now that I go out and barbecue my steaks.?

Wojtanowicz is expected to make a full recovery, and is now laughing about the whole ordeal.

?This solidifies the fact it?s the most expensive steak I?ve ever bought.?

This man should not be allowed to reproduce.

Why, for having a BBQ? Never eaten something like scrambled eggs and ended up swallowing some egg shells? This is no different. He was just unlucky enough to not bite down on the metal bristle.

Yeah, I'm not really sure how you can eat something and not know there is a metal bristle in it. Unless he's a giant fatty and he eats tons of food with little chewing.

Though, next time I clean my grill I'm going to make extra sure i don't leave any bristles behind.

OK, so how exactly does one not bit down on metal in your food? Luck has nothing to do with it.

Because not everyone chews their food into a million tiny peices. People go to the emergency room all the time for the same thing but with fish bones.

Didn't he wait till the food was cooked ?

Maybe he should invest in a hand-held metal detector.

And how did they get the metal from his intestines ...

It is?

yes, because even if it is a rare occurrence it can still kill you if it does happen and you don't go to the hospital

You will have to excuse nominak. His sole purpose in life is to troll on the internet. You will notice most things he says are one liners and mostly say that this is stupid or he is stupid bla bla bla. Take him with a grain of salt ;)

Just like I take you ;)

Clearly if this guy can't clean his BBQ properly. He shouldn't be using it to cook with.

So the prereq for being allowed to reproduce is being able to clean a grill? That would mean that 99% of people wouldn't be able to.... wait... I see what you did there. Carry on.
