+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted July 12, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted July 12, 2012 What's Next for Digsby We apologize that it?s been awhile since we?ve been in touch! Digsby is privileged to have a passionate community and powerful group of users, and we wouldn?t be where we are today without you. We?re delighted to inform you that soon the Digsby platform will be open sourced, allowing you and others to build and evolve this great product. What does this mean for me? Once we release the open source version, your Digsby settings will now be stored locally on your computer, rather than being saved to the Digsby servers. Additionally, the Digsby widget will no longer be available, but you can still access all your favorite Digsby features through the application. You can contribute! All users will have a place to share ideas, and our technically inclined users will have a chance to get their hands dirty to build out features and updates (as well as see some of the powerful behind-the-scenes frameworks that we?ve built to-date). When will this process take place? We will roll out the open-sourced version of Digsby on Github in the coming weeks. Look out for specific updates here on the blog. As always, we want Digsby to continue to thrive and be your go-to tool for IM + Email + Social Networks, so we?re giving more power to the best folks we know who can make this a reality: you! Rappy Veteran Posted July 12, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 12, 2012 I was thinking the other day what ever happened to Digsby
ViperAFK
I used to really like this app, but its development seemed to stagnate and trillian 5 surpassed it in every way (same features, less resource usage, better win7 integration). Hopefully when its open source it might see more development and improvements and become competitive again. deactivated_ 1 Share
AJerman
Hmmm.... I completely forgot about Digsby. I guess that was around the time that I completely forgot about instant messengers in general. Still, I recall liking Digsby.

Growled Member Posted July 13, 2012 Member Share Posted July 13, 2012 I may go back and use it now. I salute them for going open source.
Denis W. Veteran Posted July 13, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 13, 2012 Holy crap, it's about time. Maybe someone can finally fix the Messenger protocol - it was on the older version that didn't permit multiple points of presence. If they do so I'll happily return to this client. farmeunit
I had to move to Trillian also. Digsby ALWAYS had issues with Facebook, and sometimes with MSN. Got tired of it. I don't use messengers as much in general, but prefer Trillian now.
+Warwagon MVC Posted July 13, 2012 MVC Share Posted July 13, 2012 I had to move to Trillian also. Digsby ALWAYS had issues with Facebook, and sometimes with MSN. Got tired of it. I don't use messengers as much in general, but prefer Trillian now. Same. I loved digsby I really really did. But facebook wouldn't connect half the time. In fact I still love the way digsby handles gmail emails and facebook over the way trillian does. Though I do like how trilian follows you around to all of your different devices. So you can start a conversation on one computer and take it with you on your phone or on another machine.
ViperAFK
I couldn't move over to Trillian 5 as it continued to have problems with fetching avatars. Can't say I've had any issues with that, using aim/msn/gtalk/facebook chat protocols
killer2239
My favorite part of digsby was the fact that I could open it on my desktop at home, or computer at work and it auto loaded settings and always was the same. Now that they will not store settings on server anymore I might not have as much use for it. That and the fact that I rarely use any service other than google talk anymore, which can easily be done from my gmail page. Will just have to see what fits my use as the changes happen, if I even use a chat program anymore.

In-fact, it's one of the many reasons to run your own cloud. :) All it takes is one Rasberry Pi for example ;) Glassed Silver:mac
CPressland
I would love to see this! I've been waiting for an OS X Client for like.... 5 years now?!
ViperAFK
I would love to see this! I've been waiting for an OS X Client for like.... 5 years now?! I doubt I'll replace trillian on my windows computer anytime soon, but I'd really like a linux version of digsby. They said they'd be doing an osx and linux version pretty early on if I recall, but nothing ever came of it, not even so much as a screenshot. I'd like to see a linux version since telepathy/empathy is buggy and lacking features and pidgin's development has pretty much only been bug fixes for quite some time (although it still works quite well). There's really currently no multiprotocol IM programs on linux that have the social integration features trillian and digsby have.
