  1. 1. Gnome vs. Cinnamon?

Recommended Posts

Right, it was mentioned in the previous thread to put Gnome up vs. Cinnamon for a final time to see what of the two to use.

Ill let this run for a few days and then see what the vote is.

If anyone is around tonight, I'll be on IRC if anyone wants to pop on and discuss.

I voted for Gnome because in my limited use of Cinnamon it was buggy as all get out.

Actually you should try Cinnamon 1.4. I won't say its bugfree. But at least not as much buggy as it was initially.

cinnamon is nice - but way to bug ridden and immature at this point, let them shape up the platform more for this to be considered an early option

Not a fan of either, but between the two I personally like Cinnamon's workflow better, namely it just feels more productive, some of GNOME's design decisions don't make a lot of sense or actually make things worse. (Change is good when it improves the workflow.. change "just because" not so much.) Just needs to get their stability issues worked out.

I do have to agree that Gnome 3.x has a big "pro" in having extensions. Con, agree with the "just because" change. Seriously... no desktop, no screensavers?

I haven't yet tried Cinnamon, though part of me does miss the old Gnome 2.x.

So... voting Gnome 3.x

Gnome 3 does support desktop! I'm not really sure why people thinks it doesn't.

Get gnome-tweak-tool and enable it on the desktop.

I won't say that Cinnamon is bug free, but I won't call this project immature. The latest version is quite stable and I use it everyday.

If we did both, there would have been no point in voting in the first place. :p Gnome it is?

sick. Will be fun doing this. Must say I really like how it's been community driven right down to the base and the de. Can't wait to start devving.

I would say Gnome 3. I tried Cinnamon awhile for nostalgic reasons. MATE in my honest opinion is better then Cinnamon. But the more I used Gnome 3 I found how easy it truly was. The only reason I balked at it before was because of the big change only. I just didn't give it a chance.

I'm currently running with Cinnamon on my Ubuntu install. Been playing around with it and mono, been finding a few things that work and that don't. Definitely a good chance to practice for s2.

Yeah, I did the same thing at first but the more I try Gnome 3 the better I like it.
