Amsterdam tightens rules on prostitution

AMSTERDAM ? The city of Amsterdam says it plans to force brothel owners to submit a business plan to the city describing what measures they are taking to ensure sex workers are healthy and not being exploited.

Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands since the year 2000, and tolerated in Amsterdam for centuries. But in recent years both the city and national government have become increasingly critical of the industry. Many prostitutes are victims of human trafficking or coerced by pimps. In 2007 Amsterdam shuttered a third of its brothels, saying they were a source of crime.

The city says it will adopt the measures announced Friday by 2013, whether or not a national law raising the minimum age for prostitutes to 21 has gone into effect.

Honestly I wasn't that impressed when I was there in February. A good half of the girls seemed to have implants, some were really overweight, some just looked freaky. I walked through the street and side streets 3 times and there was only maybe 2 girls who I actually was "attracted" to. As in, if they weren't a prostitute and were at a bar, I may actually try to hit on them.

Pretty girls *generally* don't chose prostitution.. so you shouldn't be shocked..

Though I'm fine with it being legal.. it's their body.. as long as safeguards are in place, like Amsterdam has been doing.. After all making Porn is legal, as are physical sports like boxing..

What really boggles the mind is that just adding a camera actually makes it legal as you're now producing a porn and not just paying for sex. :s

I agree the reasoning behind that fails. Stricter regulation sure to prevent pimps from explointing the girls, but in a way that protects them not force the younger ones into the underground market exclusively.... :rolleyes:

Maybe you missed the part where I said GENERALLY. It was easy to muss I guess, it just had asterixis on either side..

There are exceptions to every rule, but vast majority are there due to limited options, and Attractive women always have more options, including being strippers/dancers, etc..

Apparently you failed to understand that the quotes were not the main point of what he had to say no instead you had to be an ass and make "valid" point.

Yes clearly most women who do prostitution are doing so for a lack of options. Then there are quite a few really nice looking ones out there. Just there are equally many who don't quite do well on the 10 point scale. Usually those ones have to make up by being cheaper or they have to find something else to do.
