Steed, FTP/Azure/S3 client for Windows

Question

Hi!

I'd like to present you Steed, which started its public beta 2 weeks ago. I'm one of the developers of the application, and we've been working hard for months on this project.

Steed01.png

As the title says, Steed is an FTP, SFTP, Azure and S3 client, it allows you to browse and transfer files from each of these "protocols".

We though windows needed an file transfer client, that was visually appealing, easy to use, and up to date.

We know there is a lot of other FTP client on the market, but we though this one would bring something new to the Windows application ecosystem.

You can find it at : www.frenchfrysoftware.com/steed,

It has been build for Windows 7, but also support XP, and Vista. It might also work on Windows 8, even if it is not officially supported for now.

Keep in mind that this is a beta.

You can provide us feedback on our support page, or you can contact us via twitter.

I hope you'll enjoy it!

@CPressland - Have a look at Panic Transmit. It's somewhat similar. This is basically a windows version of what the Panic crew did.

@CPressland Like s55 said, there is already Transmit on Mac OS, which is a very powerful and well designed Ftp app.

@s55 This is not basically a windows version of the work of Panic, but I agree, we have been inspired by they great work.

From the download to installing and using it, Steed looks really slick and already has a lot of polish. I'll get some good use out of this and should have some feedback for you over the next week or so.

Just some minor feedback meanwhile, middle-clicking tabs should close them and tabs could do with a context-menu, maybe with "Duplicate", "Close" and even "Reload", "Reopen closed tab" (similar to Chrome and Firefox).

@JubFequois yes we tried to make something less complex than FlashFXP but still powerful.

@Nashy no putty integration, or something like that. We may provide sftp authentication via key in Future releases.

@Antraxek yes this is something planned. We do not have ETA for this feature. But it is in our todo list.

@nik louch Because it is not a copy? I mean, as I said, it inspired us. When we started to look at other ftp client on the windows plateform we tried to took the best of them, then we turned on other plateform to see what have been done, and sure Panic's Transmit is one master piece of software. So that's right it inspired us. But it would have been a lot harder to copy them than to build our own software and take good ideas when they can be applied to Windows users.

On your website, the "Connect anywhere" paragraph uses a Windows 8 looking image. It doesn't really convey the sentiment at all and is a little confusing. Jussayin!
