'MONEY IS NO ISSUE'
Fund a team of post-PhD research students at a university to create your own system to your own design.
Time could be an issue.

But otherwise an excellent idea.

I can vouch for the "high end" ASUS routers, they really are quick.

I'm a fan of the Apple Airport Extreme, it's rock solid, but there are as good/better performing routers for the same, or even less.

But in the end of the day, I try to run Ethernet everywhere I can. It's soo much better..

Also, think about what you will be doing.. if it's just browsing the net, and maybe streaming movies off another computer, than any N router will do.. If you are going to be downloading torrents, then there are some routers better suited for handling high numbers of connections. If it's moving a lot of large files between computers, then you want performance, or back to basics, run an Ethernet cable and save yourself hours :)

If money is seriously no issue, I'd recommend going an Aruba wireless solution.
What's that? Too expensive? Okay. :p

I'd avoid the Apple gear. Asus and Netgear have some great products, worth checking them out. 802.11ac won't help you without getting new wireless cards. So your best bet is to probably go for a dual-band MIMO 802.11N router for now.

Any reason to avoid Apple? I've yet to find a more stable router than the Extreme.

Why is this in the Mac OS / Apple forums?

And for me, I've never found a fast Wireless N router. That's why I've cabled my house!

Can anyone offer up an opinion on Draytek routers? I always hear that they are the best devices out there, and that lots of small business owners swear by them. I'm not convinced though, I dunno... I don't see much innovation in their products.

Avoid?! Good lord man, you're talking rubbish lol. I've been through Asus, Netgear, D-Link, Linksys etc and I swear to God, I got an Airport Extreme three months ago that's been performing 100% perfectly, solidly, and fast as hell since the day I plugged it in. Devices connect in mere moments, and the product looks beautiful. It's hands down the best router I ever used. Wirelessly and wired I have had zero issues with it, including speed. Transferring internally is blisteringly fast. It's also simultaneous dual band.

Seriously ... why avoid?!
