Tattoo artist molests girls

A Marion man faces multiple sex charges after authorities say he molested teen girls while giving them tattoos.

Capt. Shanon Smith of the McDowell County Sheriff?s Office charged Michael Wayne Smith, 44, of Mountain View Terrace with four felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and three felony counts of statutory rape. He was taken into custody in lieu of a $720,000 bond.

Smith said investigators have identified four victims, who were in their early teens when the crimes reportedly occurred.

?He would give them free tattoos on their private areas and sexually assault the victims in the process,? the captain stated.

All of the victims were acquaintances of Smith. The incidents allegedly occurred over the past two years.
