Apple announces OS X Mountain Lion will be released tomorrow

Recommended Posts

As part of its quarterly earnings press release, Apple has confirmed that OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, the latest version of its desktop operating system, will be released via the Mac App Store tomorrow. Priced at $19.99, Mountain Lion brings a number of elements from iOS to the Mac with new features including Notification Center, expanded iCloud support, Reminders, a revamped Messages app, and more. We took an in-depth look at an early preview of OS X 10.8 back in February, and Apple has also detailed each of the 200+ new features you'll find in the new OS when it becomes available for download tomorrow. Just keep in mind that Facebook integration won't be arriving until sometime this fall.

I've been running the GM since it was given to developers, it's very stable. I found a few issues with the new way Safari renders but it's very minimal.

Any news if this release will be worldwide?

Seeing how Lion was also released worldwide - yes.

Should be, just might take a bit of time to propagate to app stores worldwide.

Apple has always done so in the past. Why would it be any different tomorrow? Unlike Windows OS X never came in different localized versions, short from the box itself. There's one version that supports all languages out of the box.

Now that I think about it, I think we should wait for 10.8.1

I've been using the GM for a while now. So far I haven't encountered any real problems.

What's the best feature? Any essential over Lion?

It's the accumulation of a lot of smaller refinements rather than one big thing. Apple's website does a good job showing what has been added to OS X Mountain Lion. Right now I'm running an upgraded installation which always yielded much poorer results for me performance wise. I can't comment on that until I do an erase & install. I'm not going to lie though, it isn't a massive change from OS X Lion. The interface looks more polished, Safari 6 is really smooth and its new Tab View is extremely convenient, they split up Notes from Mail, added Reminders app, etc. Overall it's just a nicer version of OS X Lion.

I updated the OP to include a link to the new features. Apple has them detailed.
