On the heels of Apple's earnings release yesterday in which the company announced a record 17 million iPads sold during the second calendar quarter of 2012, research firm Strategy Analytics has published its estimates of the total global tablet market for the quarter. According to the report, Apple captured 68.3% of the market, up from 62% in the year-ago quarter and the company's highest share in nearly two years.

Gee, that's interesting. And all these people have been saying that the iPad is losing ground to Android tablets.

I'm sure it will start to happen when the Surface is released though. Given that it's priced decently.

Yea, amazing how a companies market share can increase when others are not allowed to sell their products.

Android is just having a harder time finding its place in the tablet market than it did in phones.

Wouldn't be a problem if they stopped stealing the property of other companies...

Your opinion. Nothing has been proven and Apple has not been winning all their cases either.

These numbers don't take into account the Nexus 7. And even if that is ignored, the total shipped still increased from 4.4 to 7.3 million. Which is more than a 50% growth year on year. Perhaps not as good as the phone market, but tablets are just getting started.

Well if a tablet gets blocked from selling, it's proof enough that it was busted for stealing. It is what it is.

Not really. They are just temporary sales blocks until the case gets settled. No final verdict has been handed down...yet.

No worries... with Nexus 7, ASUS Transformer Infinity, new Kindle and a few more affordable ones the picture this year will look much much different. Apple has been doing everything they can to stop everyone from selling tablets by using every dirty trick they can, but you know, this strategy only lasts for so long. When you are unable to compete, legal and other dirtbag strategies can only stop innovation for a little bit. Eventually you get stomped over.

You can already see that Apple is on their 4th quarter missing estimates and having weaker and weaker sales. Their stuff is stale and people are just sick of it.

I'm not even going into Google Fibre TV package where people will getting Nexus 7 with their fibre internet/tv package.

People are sick of it? Did you even read the story? They sold more iPad's than ever before.

I don't know why you do this in every Apple topic just give it a rest already.

Just like any other growing industry. The only way is up either way because people want tablets. They try to prevent competitors from selling and of course they will sell units. The real numbers will be actually more showing towards the end of the year and holidays when we actually see real numbers AFTER Android tablets have actually been sold after all the desperate obstruction by Apple.

Nexus 7 alone has already outsold Kindle Fire and it will have tremendous influence on numbers and we are not even considering others.

And yeah.. people are already sick and tired of iOS. Apple is simply unable to keep up with innovation of competitors. The fact that Samsung's Android phones alone are now outselling iPhone 2-to-1 (hell even Galaxy S3 alone is now neck to neck with iPhone 4S sales) and Apple missing revenue estimates for the 3rd quarter (they are saying they will fall short of estimates in the fourth one as well) is very showing of what's happening on the market.

Strange that you say that, because when talking about HTC missing estimates and losing profits, you said it was nothing. You even said that their profits dropping one quarter it didn't meant they were doing awful.

If that is HTC, which is a spec of dust compared to Apple, then your conclusions are just baseless.

The religion of android is strong with this one, his apple hate even stronger. Don't worry, that particular crowd will move on when it's more "cool" to hate something else.
