My new .500 Magnum hog load

Recommended Posts

Got these from an online supplier and tried a few, and am now ordering 50 more rounds.

One issue: it-kicks-like-a-sonofabitch

Next stop is to get a mold so I can roll my own and save some $$$$. I already have a source and load recommendation.

Handgun: Magnum Research BFR

Barrel Length: 10"

Cartridge: .500 S&W Magnum

Bullet: 700g hard cast lead

Muzzle Velocity: 1,200 fps

Muzzle Energy: 2,240 lbf

Group 25 yds: 2.0"

$60 for 20 rounds, which is why I want to get molds.

In N. America or Africa?

It could take down a cape buffalo with a well placed shot, but I'll be using them for hogs, which can run up too 600+ lbs and are aggreessive & mean as Hell, or other big game like elk.
