I only mentioned Gorilla Glass 2 as previous rumours have suggested that the current screen is using Gorilla Glass already. Whatever it is that Apple is using for the glass screens though, they could certainly be made more "shatter-proof". There's no harm in improving it, right?

If a kid proofs time after time she can't handle fragile objects she shouldn't be allowed to use them anymore. It's that simple. If she bought the product in question with her own money she can deal with the consequences herself. I'm not implying the original poster is a bad parent in general in any way.

Everyone I know with an iPhone has a crack somewhere on the glass. They have a cases for the phones as well. Hell, I dropped my nieces iPod (latest gen) from 3ft on to tile an the screen shattered. iPods/iPhones are very sensitive to having the glass crack or shatter. I have seen Android dropped from 5ft on on to concrete and they come away with just a minor scratch on the side/plastic.

Apple's screens are more sensitive and more susceptible to damage than other screens. There are several drop tests/videos proving/showing this as well.

Yes, every screen has the potential to crack....but Apple needs to do something with their screens and why they are breaking so easily.

Everybody should know that an iPhone glass screen is extremelly poor quality. It breaks so easily. I know a handfull of people with shattered iPhones or iPod, and some of them did not even drop it, it shatered because of a small bump onto a chair etc ..

I dropped my S2 on the concrete without a scratch .. go figures.

There are a lot of others screens out there that use gorilla glass that do not break as easily. Besides, would rather have a plastic screen that doesnt shatter than a glass screen that does. Yea, can be the most careful person in the world...but everyone messes up at some point. Only takes once as well.

You by all means pretend YouTube videos posted by random people are the apex of reliability. I've seen similar videos claim the Nokia Lumia 900's screen is next to impossible to scratch. My personal experience with the phone tells a different story altogether.

The problem with the iPhone is that it has bigger corners due to the roundness(hitting a corner is instant shatter), the small bezel and aluminum frame also makes it more fragile because it has practically zero give before the glass. Meanwhile a phone with high quality plastic or polycarbonate with a bigger bezel, will be able to compress far more in the bezel without damaging the casing and absorb much of the impact preventing a shatter of the glass.

They I, my sisters, my mom, and many other members of my family and fiends are very lucky. I have seen several phones drop and everytime an iPhone is dropped, the screen is cracked. Very rarely is it so that I have seen with other phones.

So use luck for an excuse if you want.

No, its called Apple only warranty's the screen (unless you by extended) for 1 year and people do not want to pay twice as much for Apple to fix the screens. SO kits came out to make it cheaper. T here would be no replacement kits if this was not a widespread problem.

Hence the reason I was comparing phone manufacturers and phone models rather than platforms as a whole. Try reading more carefully. Not all Android phones have glass panels, which makes a large portion of them incomparable to begin with.

So it would make sense i insult my family/friends just so I can prove a point and make Apple look bad. Since there is no videos online or comments from a lot of Apple users on how easily the glass beaks I have to come up with my own excuses and lies.

You're right, it's almost three times. (see image below). Of course things can change on a per country basis. Even then Samsung sells phones that don't feature a glass screen.

I've dropped my phone (gorilla glass) several times onto concrete, ceramic tile, etc and don't even have a scratch on the screen. I don't use protectors or a case.

Gorilla glass was used pre iPhone 4. I believe they use a diff kind of glass now. Not exactly sure what it is.

My niece wanted an iPod but I wouldnt by her one until she proved she could take care of it. Also, she was a little young for one. So I got her a Sansa MP3 player at first. She kept that for a long time and it still works so I got her an iPod. Made her at least get a bumper for it in case she dropped it. She takes really good care of it now.

I think this is very relevent: I once dropped a few glasses as a kid (the drinking kind) with various liquids in accidentally, some broke and others did not. Now, that leads me onto the current scene in terms of waste of paper and packaging, it's an utter disgust! Rats, rats, rats...

Have you ever heard of an Otter Box Defender Series case? They work.

Only think I ever used was a screen protector. Never a case. You buy a phone because its thin and fits in your pocket and has a good look to it. Then a case ruins all of that. I RARELY drop my things anyway so I am not to worried myself. Just figured that with todays tech, phone companies can make tougher devices
