Recommendation for best Wireless router to use with VirginMedia Superhub fo

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I need some help please...I would appreciate recommendations for best Wireless router I can buy to use with Virgin Media 30mb service & Superhub (modem mode) for around ?50 GBP (or less if possible)..though may reluctantly stretch a bit more budget wise if really makes the difference.

Deal-breakers for me :

1) I need really great signal reach & strength as our PC is upstairs & the router is in lounge

2) I need to eradicate both wired & wireless internet connection drop outs that are plaguing our superhub experience currently

3) I will be wirelessly streaming 4OD & Sky via Xbox daily so need good connection & throughput

4) I would like to connect a USB external HDD to the back of the router to share music between devices (PC running W8 RP, xbox 360, ps3, iPad2, Nexus 7, iPhone 4 & Galaxy Nexus)

5) I would prefer a guest network to use for visitors so keeping our network shared data secure

Thanks chaps!

Best regards

Recommending it because I use it:

Linksys E4200 v1.

V2 is nice also and even faster with NTFS drives.

Other good choices that i've recommended friends:

Netgear WNDR3700 & Asus RT56

Issues with signals and such all are location dependent. If you have tons of other 2.4Ghz devices in your neck of the woods no router can magically fix those issues. Use 5Ghz if you can since that's less populated.

SHoTTa35,

Thanks appreciate your help.

The Linksys is way over my budget, and even the other two are pushing the limit of my budget. Out of the three you mentioned, I'd most likely go for Asus RT56 though I'm hoping I can find something that will meet my criteria for ?50GBP or less!!

If those are out of your budget then the TrendNet routers are a good buy too. They use basically the same hardware as the Linksys ones I mentioned and then you can just put DD-WRT on there instead to get some better GUI/performance.

Thanks everyon

I actually opted for the Linksys E4200 even though it was over double my budget!

I could only afford it thanks to a nice ?181 credit Virgin Media are applying to our account for how crap the service has been for the past 16 months of our 18 month contract!!!

Maybe now I will have confidence in re-negotiating a contract with them I'll see how the last 10 weeks of our contract go with the E4200...I hope it lives up to the reviews I've seen lol!

Thanks again guys - your help really is appreciated.

Best regards
