Rayman Legends Will Be a Wii U Exclusive

If you were planning on owning the next title in the critically acclaimed Rayman franchise, you'll also have to plan on owning a Nintendo Wii U.

A new trailer screened at Gamescom revealed that Ubisoft's Rayman Legends will only be released for Nintendo's Wii U console.

This might come as a disappointment to the rest of the gaming world, but Nintendo fans are bound to have a great time with the ways that the GamePad is integrated into the side-scrolling gameplay. The GamePad will allow players to move obstacles as the characters progress through the level either through the touchscreen or the motion controls.

The trailer below features some in-game footage and shows how the Wii U's GamePad will work with Rayman and his friends' latest adventure. The final screen in the trailer reveals its Wii U exclusivity.

video doesn't work

also it's a shame it's exclusive to Wii U, I would have really liked to have this on my Vita (though I still haven't beaten Rayman Origins :p)

  • 4 weeks later...

Looks interesting. I played Rayman Origins for a bit (borrowed it from the Library), it was pretty fun. This might be on the list of games that adds up to enough to make the Wii U a worthwhile purchase. Still not sure about the price though... the Wii was a hit because it was so cheap, but the controller seems to have seriously jacked up the price. It's like the Xbox 360 + Kinect, without the option to not buy Kinect.

I absolutely adored Rayman Origins. In fact it is easily one of my favorite games of 2011 (although I was late to the part and played it in early 2012). But it seriously is my favorite platformer of recent years. Like no doubt about it.

Honestly this game, ZombieU, and the new SMB is making a very, very compelling case to purchase the WiiU. I just know my Wii collected dust just a few short months into purchase. I also know (as I said in the other thread) there are a ton of games coming out for the 360, PS3, and PC that I will have to play, which I hardly have the time to do so with those games. So the gamer in me wants a WiiU, the practical turning 38 year old in December man in me is saying fight the temptation the kid in you has and hold off for the 2013 price drop. I really plan on trying to do the latter, but I am an impulse shopper if there ever was one. And since I do not have children yet, it is pretty easy to spoil myself with silly gaming related electronics, even when I know damn well they are silly.

Yeah, I'll definitely be waiting for a price drop, if I do get it at all. $300-$350 is just too rich for my tastes. I bought my PS2 at $40 (after the PS3 stopped being BC), a GameCube for $15 (and controllers for $15 each), GF bought the 360 Arcade when it hit $130, and a Wii for $120 second hand. Those are all very good prices. If it hits $200 for the 32GB model, and launch titles have dropped to $10 a pop, then, yeah, it doesn't seem like a bad deal (as long as the tablet controller doesn't turn out to be way too heavy as someone on Ars was concerned about).

In the case of the Wii, you'd hardly know the difference. Not many new games out for it anyway. I think Monster Hunter Tri showed about the extent of what you can do graphically with the Wii, Skyward Sword may have matched it. After that I think all the devs said '****, we're done'

I look forward to seeing some of the marquee games for the Wii drop in price so I can pick them up for $10-$15 over the next couple years. The crappy thing with the Wii is a lot of the top titles hold their value for a really long time.

World map shown

- New level shown

- In the single player mode a good portion of the game will be played as Murfy. Rayman will be AI controlled and Murfy (the player) is his protector

- There will still be some "classic" levels where you can play as Rayman in single player

Pretty sure at some point today I am going to Game Stop to preorder the WiiU, and this game is one of the HUGE reasons why.

Looks like I am also going to get $100 for my Wii, I have a modded version someone is interested in, so that is the second HUGE reason why.

I still have some shades of doubt though, which is why I have not already gone, so going to see how the day plays out.

I do think I am also going to have a garage sale very soon, I have a lot of older games and computer related equipment that while it is no longer needed by myself, I do think there are people out there it would be stuff they are interested in, especially at a fair price. I figure that should net me another $100 or so, so I am over half way there with the WiiU at that point in time.

But I am pretty convinced a new SMB, this game, and ZombieU are a good enough "launch" lineup. Especially since I am fortunate enough to have the other consoles as well. Lot's to play all around.

Well, I went an preordered the WiiU.

Thing is, I had no clue it was already "sold out" of the deluxe version, so had to go with the Basic.

I then thought about it, and as long as games do not require an install, I am fine with the Basic, especially if the console still supports memory cards and external driver like the Wii currently does.

Also preordering the basic version does put me in line for reserving the next allocation of any deluxe versions GameStop may get between now and release, so I always have the opportunity to possibly upgrade.

But seriously as long as games do not require installs, I think I am fine with the Basic version, although overall the Deluxe is obviously the better deal.

Wii U supports unlimited sized external drives.. at nintendo thing the other day, Reggie said, Plug your 3TB External and you'll be good. Kind of awesome in that regard.

Yeah, that is kinda cool. I had to change my PS3 HDD the other day but because I had no USB 2.0 ext HDD I couldn't do a back-up. Apparently PS3 doesn't ecognize 3.0 connected drives... :(

I assume the Wii U has USB3?

As far as I know, no. USB 3.0 connected drives will probably work, but you'll only get 2.0 speeds.

That's definitely a bummer.

I had to re-download all of my PS+ content. All of my important save files were backed-up to the cloud so it wasn't a complete loss.

Awesome. This is all I needed to know. Thanks for sharing. (Y)

So since I missed the video, is there any really documented differences between the basic and delux besides internal memory size, color, and the deluxe comes with Nintendo world?

If those are the only major differences, I will keep the basic order then if it turns out I cannot upgrade to a deluxe edition, as honestly I can probably do without Nintendo World or whatever the game is called.

Very good news indeed. I figured they would do the external HD thing again. :punk:

Those are the differences... basically you get some stands for the Wii U and 2 for the controller one of them is a charging base I believe, and 32GB for the Deluxe.. also the Deluxe gets that special promotion for purchasing games through the EShop.

I'm torn. I want a Black Wii U, but I don't know if I need all the stuff. I can buy the Basic Wii U and get NSMBU and be pretty content with that until I can afford any more titles :p

Thanks for this, definitely.

Damn, the deluxe is obviously the much better deal, now I know why they were sold out.

I honestly did not expect to find out they were sold out already of the preorders, the response online was so lackluster I just assumed they would be available, or I would have done it they day they were announced.

Well, just going to keep on calling GameStop to see what is up, the dude told me I could call every day if I want to see if they have any more deluxe editions for preorder. I told him he would regret telling me that, as I would call every day asking.

But yeah honestly at the end of the day, the basic will do me just fine. My wife hates when I leave electronics out anyway, so even though the stands/chargers of the deluxe are another reason I want it, she would be a stop to them being on display right quick. :D

I am also going to be keeping any eye on Amazon US site. I read the Uk site did preorders, so hoping the American site comes around as well.

Thanks for the fast response and the help. Much appreciated.

White Wii U would look out-of-place in my current setup so when I buy a Wii U, it'll be a black one.

Black would definitely match my stuff better as well, although I do have a White Wii and XBox 360 currently, so would not be the end of the world. But I do prefer black if possible.

Yeah, just going to annoy the hell out of GameStop, going to set myself up a reminder to call them every morning until release. :shiftyninja:

Well, after a little investigating, looks like one place still did have the Deluxe available for Pre-Order...

WiiU_Deluxe-WALMART.png

SO yeah, hopefully this means I got it through WalMart.com. I paid the extra $7 for expedited shipping (regular shipping was $7.97 to get it the week it comes out as well.

I am going to still keep my preorder with Gamestop and see what happens, if I can upgrade to the Deluxe through them, I will, and just keep the 2 and see if I can put the second one up on Craiglist since they seem like they may be hard to find once they are released. Who knows, maybe I can make a few bucks on top of everything. :woot:

So yeah, anyone looking for the deluxe in the US, looks like Walmart.com may be your only option right now. Here is a direct link to it...

Thanks man, going to watch at work tomorrow.

And looks like I got incredibly lucky grabbing that deluxe model at Walmart when I did last night, as they too are also now currently sold out online, and Walmart now says to expect the next wave to ship on December 31st. :s

Not even sure why I checked Walmart.com last night, but I am glad I did. No doubt.

I am even going to keep my Basic preorder at GameStop as well for now, considering they are also selling out. I would not even be one of those people that sell it for hundreds more, but if I can make a few extra dollars, hell I would be happy with the $50 difference between the basic and deluxe, then I will not complain at all.
