Any chance of adding a LGBT forum?

I think it'd be nice to have a forum for the LGBT community within the neowin universe. I know there's not a lot of us queer folk here but I think it'd be nice to have a forum for discussing LGBT issues, events, and such. An "official homosexuality" thread is insufficient, IMHO. So, what say the rest of you? Mods? Admins?

The thing is there are many forum topics that get stuffed into one thread that is called "Official Something Or Other"

So all such topics can have, in theory, their own sub-section.

What kind of discussions would the new sub forum be for? Is there enough LGBT content that it demands its own section?

is there going to be a straight one? A mormon one? A pastafarian one?

Why? This is a tech forum with a few basic offshoots

What next? An official straight forum? An official religion subforum? An official paintball lovers subforum? A official cycling subforum? An official cooking subforum? An official transporters subforum?

^ All of them would be stupid on this site, why do we need an LGBT subforum?

There's *plenty* of forums out there if you wish to discuss LGBT issues.

Can we have a hetero one? Can we have a bestiality forum? And how about one dedicated to people who aren't satisfied just to be who and what they are, but have to parade it in public?

My own two cents:

Neowin should be tech-focused first, everything else second. RWI is there to keep the political discussion separated from the rest of the forums, but it shouldn't be the focus of this community's resources. So that said, I am doubtful LGBT issues require a new subforum.

I am not sure where events may go, if members wish to discuss those. Maybe in General Discussion? So long as it isn't heavily politicized, it should be okay there?

If we are going to add that.. then we also need to add a "When Technology Humps" forum... for all that tech on tech talk

You're seriously comparing LGBT issues to Pastafarianism??? LOL... There are far more LGBT folk here than Pastafarian, I spect... But then, if there was a great deal of Pastafarians here, I'd say sure, have at it.

Sounds like more self entitlement from the LGBT crowd. This is a tech forum. There's plenty of other places to discuss those issues.

That's great. There's far more straight folk here than LGBT, but we aren't crying for a forum are we?

Why do you feel the need to be defined/Pigeon holed by your sexuality? If you're LGBT, fine. Good for you. I'm straight, I don't rub it in people's faces constantly tho.

What?

How does being queer change anything when it comes to tech related discussion?

Actually I believe the point was why should one group have their own forums? And as I said I agree.

Now to be realistic, the only real problems are organization and moderation.

I must concur with the views of several other posters, such a subjection seems unwarranted and unneeded and to me is bad for neowin community relations as it only goes to serve the idea that homosexuals must be segregated from us heterosexuals even on the internet in a tech forum and thats not how we get to equality or make Neowin a better place.

Le sigh..... It doesn't. I just thought I'd suggest it. If Neowin doesn't want it, fine.

There's no reason whatsoever to have a LGBT forum on here. As has been mentioned - this is first and foremost a tech forum. If you want to discuss LGBT issues - sure, there's RWN and it's sub-forums. But a dedicated LGBT forum? No.

This.

If your homosexual, it should have no baring on the type of the discuss that goes on here (Just like being straight doesn't), beyond political and social discussion which has it's own subforums already. It has absolutely sod all to do with technical discussion.

Seriously. They all say they want equality and all that other jazz but then they come in and want to be segregated and given special permissions and treatment. Then they wonder why people discriminate towards them.

Without integration, you will never have acceptance. All they are doing is segregating and making the issues worse.
