i4get
ok, this is a problem that bugs me, While installing new devices to my pc i get this error : "An error occured during the installation of the device The data is invalid." This is with the Philips - Toucam Pro (usb webcam) that is plug & play in winxp, can't find other drivers on the internet. Also had that problem with a dv camera. I found this : http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/faqdrivers.html Tried it modifying the USB settings in the registry but no luck. If anybody could help, I'd gladly appreciate. I just wish I won't have to reinstall the whole thing. WinXP 5.1 (english version)

Steven
you must have a NEW HP... here's the problem, this is on all New HP's or Compaq's the Registry is Incorrect for the location of the Setup Cab Files, the Registry on these machines points to the CD ROM Drives and because xp is installed from the hidden partition on these systems and never actually installed from a CD. You want to change the "Source Path" in the registry to C:WindowsI386 This Will Get Rid Of "Invaild Data" i've fixed this many times. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows CurrentVersionSetup change the "Source Path" to C:windowsi386 i hope this helps, i hope this info is correct to the last of my knowledge Now Every Time windows needs a file/driver/program from the installation it'll point to the right place, i'm too lazy to contact and tell HP and Compaq about this. Just because i don't buy those OEM Machines anymore, and i really havfe nothing to do with it, i just feel bad for those would experience this problem, hope this fixes it for you.
