deactivated_
For those that have said 'no', you've never stayed in a hotel?? That's about as 'used' as you can get. smooth_criminal1990, Flae_qui, Charisma and 1 other 4 Share
Japlabot
No way, some old guy could have died in his sleep while sleeping on it for all you know. My own mattress is not exactly a hygene paradise even though I always use a mattress protector. I rather just buy a new one for $400 and be done with it (they usually go for $2000+ but I found a factory outlet that sells them for $400 queen size and really it is quite comfortable and supportive). I would sleep in someone else matress if there is no other option eg. Only one night if I was staying with someone or in a hotel, who change the sheets every day

Nick H. Supervisor Posted August 31, 2012 Supervisor Share Posted August 31, 2012 During University I was sleeping on mattresses that weren't mine, they came with the room. But that part of my life is over now, and I wouldn't consider getting a second hand mattress unless I was absolutely desperate.
CG-88
Only if desperate. It is a massive difference in your head between a hotel bed and buying a used bed.
jakem1
I wouldn't buy one but I've slept on many in furnished flats that I've rented and, obviously, hotels.

I'd burn it. and then make them get me a new mattress

tsupersonic
Yeah, outside of college and hotels, never would I buy a used mattress.
Charisma Veteran Posted August 31, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 31, 2012 I'd rather not, but as long as it didn't smell or look too dirty/worn/etc and was still in good condition, probably. Then a mattress cover and sheets and you're really not in contact with it at all. But it would depend on a lot of things, like how old it was and who it came from and etc.

sathenzar
Never. I would rather sleep on my floor with cheap comforters then buy a used mattress off of a stranger. Bed bugs are too rampant to chance it.

deactivated_
That is different from going out of your way to actually purchasing/revealing one and using it every single day. Indeed. Put poll isn't on purchasing one. It's 'would you *use*' which you certainly 'use' one every time you stay in a hotel. Now actually buying a used one for my home use... I probably wouldn't since you can get a decent new one for cheap.

metallithrax
you don't go out of the way to purchase one for yourself to sleep on every day. But you are happy to sleep on one that has been used by hundreds, maybe thousands of people in a hotel. Just seems odd that people are happy to use hotel mattresses, but definately wont use a second hand one. Personally, I wouldn't buy a second hand one, but have no problem sleeping in hotels.
