New Phone Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So, I need a new phone. Here is what I want in the phone:

1. Unlocked (so can be used anywhere in the world)

2. 4G

3. Price not to go over $700

4. No iOS or Blackberry. Android and Windows Phone are a go.

5. Need to use the phone on prepaid.

Bring on the suggestions. Also, by the above 5, I assume, I will only be able to use it on T-Mobile right? I'm in NYC right now.

Also, by a phone now or should I wait a week? maximum I can wait is a week.

Thanks,

Crazysah

PS - DIdn't know where to post this so thought this would be the best.

I was just told that I can use any unlocked phone with T-Mobile but I won't get 4G speeds. Is that true?

Can I use any other network then?

Hmm that doesn't make any sense. If the phone has the correct bands, I don't see why it couldn't use 4G from T-Mobile.

The Galaxy Nexus is $349 (unlocked) from Google Play Store, and will support T-Mobile's 4G, at least from what I can tell by doing a search on Google

Fixed that for ya ;)

Apparently they are calling them Windows 8 Phones, not Windows Phone 8 anymore :)

Dint knew that, But Windows phone 8 sounds better IMO.

Well, if I wait for the Windows Phone 8 devices. I'll be waiting too long. I can only wait a week. Cause college has started and I need a phone.

Also, I was told that for prepaid and 4G, I can't use the Galaxy SIII as it uses a micro-sim and not a regular sim. That's what a T-Mobile representative told me. So...

Any other suggestions?

Prove you wrong? What, are we back at primary school now ?

 I'm sorry that I require more proof than just your "authoritative" word. It just looks stupid and foolish when you correct someone and you're wrong yourself, so I wanted to make sure that I wasn't being stupid and foolish, and asked for a source on your newly-presented fact. The name change to "W8P" is news to me, considering everyone apart from one person on your linked podcast, who also refers to WP7 devices as "Windows 7 phones", is still calling it Windows Phone 8, including Microsoft (link). I'll just keep calling it WP8 until I'm shown an official source (i.e. not TWiT.tv) by someone who doesn't mind resorting to primary school antics.

Back on topic though...

Why can't you use a micro-sim? You can just cut a regular sim to micro-sim size and then use an adapter when you want the larger size.

I personally wouldn't buy any WP7 devices right now as they have no upgrade path to WP8, which is just around the corner. I'd also rather go with the Galaxy Nexus over the Galaxy S3 for out-of-the-box, vanilla Android.

Pretty sure it was mentioned during this episode

http://twit.tv/show/windows-weekly/276

That's the same idiot that still calls Windows Phone 7 by the name "Windows 7 Phones"... if he can't get the name right, why should I trust his analysis of Windows Phone? Gah, I hate that guy :p

Anyway, on topic: I'd wait to see what Nokia announces on September 5th... only 3 days away!

Well apparently none of the micro-sim plans are month to month. They are all 2 year commitment ones.

If you are willing to spend more then I will recommend you to go for samsung galaxy s3. It would be pretty smart bet, It have damn huge screen, simple user controls, cool camera, long battery life and have lovely design.
