Not many, most friends I have are actually friends, who I wouldn't care if I need to help them out. I try avoid the "old friends" from years ago who randomly IM me and ask for a pc fix. You know immediately too, there would be no other reason to talk to them.

i only have a few females on my IM list and simply dont talk to me unless there is an issue.

I don't use any form of IM, apart from actually talking to people. Then I do get people asking for help, but they usually buy me a few beers for helping.

Some people are just like that, though. I know a guy with a pickup truck and he has a lot of folks who only ever talk to him when they need help moving house or bringing home a large purchase. If you have a skillset or something useful, there are always a few who will just use you. The trick is not letting yourself fall into it too badly if it's a drain on you. Most of the time I don't mind helping people, and if I do, I just say I have too much going on at the moment.
