AT&T Pantech P8000 issues

Recommended Posts

I am new to the whole smartphone/android thing, but I am seeing some strange behavior with this phone. When going to unlock it, there is a noticeable pause (sometimes 10 seconds or greater) from the time I input the lock code and press enter to the time that it finally shows the home screen. I also notice similar behavior when accessing the phone, there also is a pause from the time of pressing the phone button to the time it brings up the dial pad. I have had the phone check for updates, but there are not any showing. It is currently running Android 2.2.1 Is there any way to diagnose this issue? I also would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the Android version, because I went to download a program yesterday from the play store, and was told that it did not support the version I was running.

Well, to fix you laggy issues I would suggest a full phone wipe/factory rest. Make sure you have any pics/vids or other data backed up.

As far as any updates, according to this link there is a 2.3 update (Gingerbread).

Instructions in the link on how to apply the update to your phone. So wiping your phone anyway would be a good idea before you apply the 2.3 update. Seems like you are having some issues and a full system wipe/reset should clean that up.

As far as anything else, your phone isnt a very popular one. There are instructions on rooting your phone but really no ROMS or MODS to apply to it. Best to stick to stock with this phone, wipe/rest, and apply the 2.3 update. And then if you are still getting "device not supported", then its time for a new phone with either ICS or JB.

Thanks for the reply. I personally do not like this phone either, and am looking into switching carriers. I really can not stand how slow this phone is on the internet (3G speeds) and I am able to go to T-Mobile which offers 4G speeds, so I am really thinking of going that route!

Hmm... If I remember right, I told you to avoid that phone in that other thread you made a while back! Haha. Pantech stuff gets returned a lot, at least in our store anyway. If you're still within the 30 days of purchase, swap it for something else.

Perhaps, but when I was asking about phones, I was thinking of getting a second line for myself, but I never did! I can see why Pantech phones get returned allot, they are junk! I have been unable to update the OS using the software, it keeps telling me that the phone is not connected via USB when it is, and I have followed the directions for putting the phone into SW Update mode, and it still does not work!
