In Windows 7 / Vista do you keep the animations and fades on or off? I'm not talking about the transparency, just the animations and fades. I personally turn them off as it makes the navigation of windows much snappier.

I just finished doing some remote support work for a girls windows 7 machines. Before I disconnected I turned off all the animations and all the fades. Once I disconnected, I said try it. Does the system feel snappier? She said "much faster, holy ****! Your freaking amazing"

For those of you who have never never tried windows with animation and fades turned off, try it, I think you will be very pleased!

Instructions.

Right click on computer or win key + pause break then click "Advanced system settings" then click "Settings" under performance.

Now at the top of the list just uncheck anything start with "Animate or fade". Then click ok and try it out :)

I personally don't care for animations from whatever engine the OS is using, be it Aero, Compiz, whatever. Flashy themes and functions that improve productivity, sure, but not the animations.

No problem keeping them on, with a decent machine. And not even on now less than decent one - old C2D at work.
I believe it is a problem to people who can't help but to install and run (with automatic startup, no less) a lot of shyte, especially on laptops already full of OEM crapware.

On the other hand - congratulations on being told you're amazing. They never ever say that to me. Did you get laid, by chance? *cough*
