BT and their superb question avoidance skills

I had the same with Sky when they put my TV package up from ?19 to ?21. I didn't care, inflation and so on, but wanted a justification...

Ah ok, so what extra services do I get for this ?24 extra per year?

Sorry there is no change to the service, it's just a price increase.

So you are now charging me more for the same service?

The prices of all our services are raising.

So what extra channels do I get?

Sorry, there's no change to the service beyond the cost increase?

OK, tell me then how it is fair that you now get ?24 per year more from me for no benefit to myself?

{silence}

Look mate, surely you have been told to tell customers the price is rising?

Yes

So your manager or trainer or whoever told you to convey this. Did they not give you a script and answers to the questions that will be raised?

I'm only meant to say it's going to rise, I've not got any answers?

Left you in the deep end then didn't it. Look, I'm only playing but this hopefully shows 2 things...

What?

One - Sky are money-grabbing and two - you need to find a job where you're not left dealing with idiots like me.

He laughed about it, but I see a major fail in his training here!

Skys constant price increases are one of the reasons I cancelled. I switched to Virgin Media's Tivo service and I'm now paying about half what I was paying Sky for an even better tv package. I get 120Mb Broadband (12Mb upload), unlimited phone, Tivo + HD + Every channel for a total of ?95 a month. Where as before I was paying about ?52 to Virgin Media for Internet & Phone + ?77 to Sky for a poorer TV box (Sky+ HD). In total I'm saving ?34 a month and I have Tivo which is soooo good. Just insanely impressive.

Lol, I saw that I hadn't censored my telephone number, but like I said, I really don't have a phone even plugged into the socket, nor do I ever intend to. I think having to pay for calls and internet as a package is such a primitive thing. I don't see the point in landlines/call-packages anymore.

I called o2 for my puk code that took two calls because the customer agent didnt undertand i was not interested in any of the crap he ahd to say that was ment to keep me with the company a 5minute call turned into a 20minute one with an argument and me slamming the phone down, had to recall an hour later when i had cooled off to get 5questions and "It seems a PUK code has already been generated and we are sorry for the trouble that this has caused."

Soon left joined giffgaff and started to get tet messages from o2, so contacted them and was told to "ignore them" and i will not recieve anymore... ive had another three so i will be calling up and telling them to block them seeing as the number they provided does not work as im not on there network.

Sky are without question the worst company in the UK when it comes to service, and they use BT for their internet and phone so the shafting just gets better and better! :p

You do know that giffgaff is owned by Telefonica - who also own O2...

Not strictly true, that's only the case if you're not in a Sky Network enabled area.

BT own ALL copper and a fair percentage of fibre cable in the UK, the rest of it belong to Virgin, so even Sky enabled areas involve BT at some stage.

Even so, SKY lease the access to those lines/backbone - BT have no say in how they're used, or have any influence on how Sky use them.

One thing I can't understand...

The government is going to be giving BT (Openreach) a lump sum of money to help roll their fibre broadband out to rural areas, which comes from the tax payer, which BT will then charge line rental on.

So we're going to be paying twice for line rental.

BT are using cheap slow fibre cable as well, I'm pretty sure I read a story about this a few months ago.
