To be fair I often identify who is posting more often by the avatar than their name. I'm probably the only one who is like that though.

This is truer than ever. There is one in particular that has plastered his ugly mugshot in his avatar and things everyone wants to look at his ugly bottom, err sorry, face.

person is always active in the 8 forums I assume

He always posts "facts" from his opinion. Does that give it away?

I think avatars make the overall website look better as they're used in a lot more places, not just in threads. That's the only reason why I have one - for ages I had no avatar.

Though I would agree that annoying/tasteless avatars should be forbidden. :p A lot of websites explicitly ban all animated avatars, just by not allowing .gif filetypes,

I can't even recall what mine is - probably linked with my Facebook. But I use them for associations, I remember people by avatar.

Doesn't seem to work for me atm, but you could just right click the image and choose adblock plus image > custom

EDIT -Still works but you have to hover over the members name and right click the avatar from the popup

If you just want to hide specific ones then you need to add the image URL to the custom filter list.

or if you want to hide all (isn't there a setting in user CP to do that??) add 2 rules

Some people are hosting off site so each one of them would have to be added.
