Homeless Man Who Handed Out Resumes Gets Hired

Recommended Posts

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) ? Christopher Boyd, a homeless Los Angeles man who handed out his resume along local freeways, has been hired. :)

The 44-year-old is working for Jack The Roofer in Simi Valley for a week before taking on a full time position with JB Wholesale, a Los Angeles roofing and building supply company that works with Jack The Roofer.

Boyd has been spotted along several freeways handing out flyers listing his skills, which range from marketing to property management, construction and professional driving.

?I?ve been all over LA,? Boyd said last month. ?I got tired of going to interviews, going places and not getting hired.?

That's a really attractive resume!

Agreed! My favourite part is "could sell water to a whale, all I need is an interpreter" Both funny and accurate, he certainly sold himself well there. Kudos to him!

He certainly could start a job as a resume-writer!

There way a guy (not homeless), sitting on a corner in a very busy interesection about 2 years ago holding a sign and resume's looking for work. Within a day he was hired. I firmly believe that the presentation of who you are and how well you sell yourself is what gets you in to the interview process. The next thing is actually proving yourself to them to be compatible and the right person for the job during the interview.

It has become illegal in my city to transfer items between vehicles and people on streets in intersections. They did this to curb homeless pandhandling as it had become pretty common for panhandlers to be on many busy corners and often became a impedance on the flow of traffic with people giving food and sometimes money to them. If you transfer anything to a person now from your car, you face a heavy fine. This law IMHO does make it pretty hard to do such a thing for an honest person to want to become hired.

I also believe too that a lot of resume's are tossed or very rarely looked at because of the sheer volume that come in for each job posting. To stand out by being different and making it different than the norm also is a good way to get yourself noticed and at least in the door. Kudos to Mr. Boyd for landing his new job!

Good on him! Can't help but feel the guy that hired him may have sensed the publicity it would generate but if it gets this guy some cash and a possible career then everyone's a winner :)

Having a father who was born with only one good leg and worked as a Chef for over 35 yrs and an automechanic on his spare time, here's what i do:

When i see a pan handler with two good legs and arms, and of a decent working age i stop and say, "gimme a sec to get some change", i go in a nearby store, get an application, fold it up tightly and place it in there palm, close handed, and watch the outrage..it's funny to see.

Or i ask them if they have change for $100 bill.
