Batteries in mouse run out quicker with software installed

Has anyone else noticed this ?

I reinstalled windows quite a while back and never got around to installing the logitech software for the mouse & keyboard, after a while I noticed that my mouse (which normally only lasts a week at most) was still going strong a couple weeks later, the life continued recharge after recharge

I just installed the logitech software yesterday and today my mouse batteries have died just a few days after a full recharge

What is the software doing that pulls more power from the mouse ?

I use a MS Wireless Mouse and I do have the software installed and my batteries last ~3-6 months.

I wish I got that many weeks, the batteries are oldish but there's definitely a big difference (like 200%+) between installed and not installed
