SirEvan
I've been cleaning up space on my RAID 5 array, and now have more than enough space freed that I can make at least one drive a hot-spare (previously had a 8 x2 RAID 5 array). I know how to do an online expansion to go from n->n+1 drives (7-8, etc) but i haven't seen very many resources on how to remove a drive from an array. I've got a dell perc 6/i controller, and when I try doing something like marking a drive offline, I don't see any options in megaraid manager to rebuild the array as a 7 drive array. am I missing something, or is there no way to easily to downgrade an array from a larger array to a smaller one? Recently we had quite a few drives fail in arrays at work, and it got me worried aobut possibly loosing more than 1 drive in my personal array, so I'd like to have at least one drive configured as a hot-spare. Thanks.
Vice
Can't. You would need to erase and start over.
SirEvan
Can't. You would need to erase and start over. Lame. I had a feeling that was the case since I couldn't find an option to rebuild the Raid 5 array after a drive was offline/removed. Thanks!
