PS3 Skyrim DLC takes an arrow to the knee

All PS3?Skyrim? fans have been waiting for Bethesda to finally fix all the issues and release the ?Dawnguard? DLC, but now it looks like it may never happen. Multiple sites, including Tech and Trend and Gaming Blend, report that Bethesda has announced issues with the DLC that is causing it to not function on its own. They add that the issues are potentially a detriment to all future DLC for ?Skyrim.?

This announcement comes on the heels of yet another DLC release for the popular RPG. The recent DLC is titled ?Hearthfire? and adds-on the ability to buy land and build a home. It also allows for children, possible servants, and conflict with people trying to attack the new homestead. This DLC was released for the Xbox 360 on September 4th. There is no release date for the PC version, and as stated above there seems to be a possibility that it will never be released for the PS3.

The lack of DLC for PS3 owners is a definite downside for Bethesda. There still stands to reason that a good many PS3 owners will leave ?Skyrim? completely out of sheer frustration. This could also potentially cause issues for Sony?s sales if diehard fans switch from PS3 to PC or Xbox 360. One can only hope that Bethesda can correct the issues they are having, and that they DLC will be playable for PS3 gamers.

I thought most PS3 owners gave up on this game a long time ago now? Or are there people still playing it even with the horrible frame rate issues, corrupted game saves, Etc..? I just truly think this is whole debacle is truly inexcusable on Bethesda's part.

Yes, it has been well documented what a pain in the ass the PS3 is to develop for, especially initially. But so, so many developers got past that fact. Why couldn't they?

Obviously their game engine just does not like the way the PS3 handles memory, but surely they knew this all along.

So the respectable thing to do would have been either not release the game on the PS3 at all or make it work on the PS3. Assuming it would have been nearly impossible to do the latter from a resources and time perspective, then just do not release the game. I ultimately think that would have been more fair to PS3 owners then releasing a game that so many were looking forward to that ultimately wound up being an inferior product in all regards.

Does suck for anyone who was wanting to play the game on the PS3 though, and although I do not think it will ultimately be all that many people, Sony may very well lose some people because of it.

Didn't Oblivion play well once released on PS3?

And I didn't have many issues with either Fallout game, even with DLC installed (GoTY Edition for 3, and bought all DLC once they were all out for NV).

The same reason their games generally has a relatively high number of bugs. It's a huge complex game, outside of MMO's the most complex games out there. Even more complex than many of them as it doesn't have a separate server element, but does all that in the client.

Combine a hugely complex game, ith a complex hard to use developement environment, and there you go.

Some games are just to much work to release on multiple systems, and they should never have done this in the first place. Though they may lacked in research and expected the ps3 version to be no more complex to dev for than the 350.

My feelings exactly. Personally I think Beth did the best they could on PS3, but ultimately this debacle has left them and Sony with egg on their faces. For many, it's another nail in the coffin as we look to the next gen consoles. Skyrim on PS3 should never have been.

Not really surprised.

It's Bethesda. I would not play any Besthesda games without mods. It's basically a requirement.

It's not Bethesda. it's the gametype. when it comes to big huge massive open world RPG games, with all it's bugs, Bethesda still makes the least buggy ones. the problem is how complex and massive these games are to code and debug. it's impossible to make them without bugs. But compare it to the alternatives like the Gothic series, the bugs in that thing makes the TES games look perfect. then you have the total fail two worlds or whatever it was called that .... well...
