So I'm hoping someone can chime in for me. Last night i received a misdemeanor possession of Valium ticket in California. It was 1 Valium, no ticket was given but i have a notice to appear in court. I was not put under arrest or read any rights. I went through a similar situation 7 years ago with a felony but it was expunged from my record. Has anyone gone through something similar? Is it i just pay a fine and be done with it? The reason i ask is I'm not sure if i want a lawyer, i had one for my first situation but in all reality in the end they didn't get me off the hook or lessen the punishment, i would have received the same either way; would it be the same for this misdemeanor?

this of course is not official legal advice and i know you cannot be responsible for what you tell me

Not sure how it is in California, but I would call your local Legal Aid place, if there is one in your area.
