Papyrus fragment refers to Jesus' wife

Mythology? LOL you guys are the dumbest people on Earth. What's next? Aristotle or Plato are myths as well?

Don't answer that, we already know the answer. If they had anything to do with religion you numb nuts would say that they are myths as well.

Mythology:

  • A collection of myths, esp. one belonging to a particular religious or cultural tradition.
  • A set of stories or beliefs about a particular person, institution, or situation, esp. when exaggerated or fictitious.

The bible is without a doubt a collection of myths and is considered mythology. Does it include some aspects that have a historical account, sure but many of the stories are just that stories which are still in fact myths. Calling others dumb for not agreeing is not dumb, it's out right retarded.

Is that quote from RationalWiki?

Jesus was not a myth, Paul who wrote a lot of the New Testament is NOT a myth. Timothy was not a myth, The deciples were not Myths.

Josephus was not a myth.

Why is it so hard to believe that the Bible is not a myth?

oh that's right it's religious so therefore throw everything out (even the eyewitness accounts from Luke, Mark, John, and Matthew)

re-posting because i really really curious to know your view:

as a side note: yogurtmaster, i want to ask you a quick question.. do you think if you had been born in Pakistan chances are likely you would be Muslim? and if you were born in the west, chances are you would be christian? Whatever your answer is, think about the possibility that "YOUR" beliefs are the way they are ONLY because of where you were born. Scary thought huh?

You seem to confuse potential historical people with the stories being told. Were they real? Personally I wont say they weren't but at the same time that doesn't equate to being actual factual people. What is myth are the many, many of the stories told, through allegories and parables. People being turned into pillars of salt, a talking burning bush, miracles of jesus, parting of the red sea and other super natural aspects, those are myths. Not a single shred of evidence backs that up and no old writings do not count as evidence. Even the so called eye witness accounts were not written down til long after the fact and that is according to historical religious scholars. There isn't even agreement that the writings are from the authors themselves. So calling them eyewitness accounts doesn't make it factual. Myths do not mean they can't contain real historical figures and still not be a myth.

That is because it is not that kind of marriage. It's a spirtiual marriage. His spiritual bride is his church.

This has nothing to do with any kind of physical sex or attraction in other words.

There are two kinds of deaths as well, death like you know it down here and spiritual death (hell).

OH so when it's convenient for you, YOU decide to change the definition of marriage. I see how it is.

Paul Bunyan, Robin Hood, Jolly Saint Nick,. etc etc can join the ranks of Jesus and Mohammad in that sense :)

There was the documentary Tomb of Jesus - a NOVA episode.

This is where I first heard of historical Jesus not being a closet homosexual.

Not sure what happened to the Tomb of Jesus episode of NOVA.

Anyone seen it?

This might be mentioning his Bride, which is the Christian believers.

Unless the translation is wrong, why would it use the word 'wife' instead of 'bride' if that was the case? That's a pretty big discrepancy.

Myths do not mean they can't contain real historical figures and still not be a myth.

A Myth did build up around the Historical Christ, that was much different from the reality.

However He was here to spiritually enlighten humans -- and what is thought of as Christ returns in this 21st century. ;)

Paul Bunyan, Robin Hood, Jolly Saint Nick,. etc etc can join the ranks of Jesus and Mohammad in that sense

You do know Luke, Mark, John, and Matthew are not the names of real people ? theyre names made up by the church for the annonymus authors....

And you do know that these so called "eyewitness" accounts were not written down right after it happened...They were passed on oraly.

So what do we have "eyewitness accounts" but you have no idea who these "eyewitness's" are and to make things even worse these were not "eyewitness's" at all! because "a person who actually sees some act, occurrence, or thing and can give a firsthand account of it " is not the same as "a person who claimed to have seen some act, occurrence, or thing but cant give a firsthand account of it because we don't even know who it is and if his account has been changed before someone finally wrote it down"

And all the above is irrelavant because your claim is no more valid than people who claim to have been abducted and have needles shoved in their arse's

Thoughts and Beliefs create realities -- and these legends do exist somewhere in the Universe as a reality.

There is no evidence other then the bible to support that notion. The bible is a book, if the bible is evidence then so is harry potter as evidence of hogwarts and wizards. As for Jesus's return, his return has been suggested for practically every century. This century is no different.

You base that on what evidence?

I love how Christians are ready to believe anything so long as it's written down.. lol

I always believed that he did marry and had multiple children. Which means there are tons of lil Jesus descendants running around.

Except he wasn't really God's son, and anyone who believes that is gullible beyond comprehension. If he did exist, he was a very VERY clever conman who fed off of the wild imaginations of his followers.

Except the very core of religion is mythology, why is it so hard for you to understand that these people never existed?

Bah! Most Christians believe that it has to be a "Spiritual" type wife. I don't. Jesus was in his late 30s when he traveled around. Nothing is known of his life before. I personally think he had been married and had children. Don't know why a Prophet of God would leave his family, unless he didn't. But the Apostles could have just overlooked this fact and never wrote about it.

But then, I'm the one who believes Jesus was just a Prophet of God. Yeah, I know, according to a lot of fundamental Christians, I'm a heretic. :p

not knocking you, just want to point out this: you see how easy it is to pick out certain things you WANT to believe? (and leave out the things you don't want)

there is no evidence outside of the bible that jesus ever existed - therefore - myth.

The story of that dude living in a whale is a myth. that story of the Arc is an impossibility, and thus, a myth.

not to mention that everything in Christianity was adopted from older religions
