Opinions on Youtube music

Recommended Posts

So me and my friend are doing a gaming channel and need so opinions / help for channel music.

Firstly where can I get some intro music that is royalty free and doesn't infringe on YT's T&C's? The clip the music would be used in is under 10 seconds

Secondly, the dubstep intro's for gaming videos are WAY to overused now and so was looking in a different direction. What genre would you suggest?

Thanks!

Before someone suggests 8-bit chipmusic - it's also overused. Or at least highly annoying.

Like Mario music?

This is off topic but please for the love of god don't play music throughout your videos. That ruins them.

Oh god no, that annoys the heck out of me aswell :p.

Exactly that. Reminiscing good old days is fine, but within reason. Unless it actually is retro games you are going on about on your channel.

That said, synths and electronic music (not necessarily dubstep) succeed in one thing - being rather universal. Guitar riffs and drum blasts imply action, orchestral sweeps - certain epicness, country/rock - often, fun/parody, downtempo/ambient - more suitable for background, rather than attention grabbing first seconds. I generalize, of course - see if you can agree.

As for sources - look for Creative Commons licensed stuff and be sure that "no-derivative" isn't mentioned - then you're good to go. And always give credit, even contact the artist. If your channel becomes popular, you'll both benefit.
