The iPhone 5 And Galaxy S III Are The Only Phones That Matter Right Now

Recommended Posts

When my friends have gone on hikes with me, their phone would usually not get reception and mine would, desipte being on the same network. I'm not sure if it's just a poor design of their smart phone or not.

Why would a smartphone (or any other phone) on the same exact network as your VE20 not get reception in the woods when your VE20 can? I have used my Galaxy Nexus all over the US, in remote areas just fine. If there is signal from my carrier, it will lock on to it, just like any other phone...

My HTC Inspire won't get reception where my old standby Motorola non-smartphone will get it. I'm not sure why.

I'm not sure the OP really understands what an ecosystem is, because if he did, he'd understand that Samsung doesn't have one beyond a small selection of hardware accessories.

While the Galaxy Nexus is a superb phone (and best of all it doesn't include any Samsung crap like Touchwiz) - it's never going to be as popular as the Galaxy S2 or 3, which is unfortunate.

I think you guys haven't heard of the LG Optimus G, it destroys all phones, quad core cortex a15, 2gb, great camera, beautiful phone.

Not a Cortex A15. A Qualcomm Krait, which performs similar but is a completely different design from the Cortex.

And seriously, destroys? It might have an impressive SoC, but as usual LG completely ruins it with software. While in some 'raw power' benchmarks like Linpack it does do really good, in other areas that matter more (like Javascript performance) it's actually slower than most competitors. And great camera? Look at the samples on GSMArena. The noise reduction is so extreme everything looks like a watercolor painting. That Optimus G might be nice on paper but is pretty mediocre in reality. As usual with LG. They're always among the first with new chips and special stuff but they always (without exception) ruin it with extremely crappy software. Always.

A good phone isn't just the latest hardware, it's the combination of good enough hardware with epic software that truly makes a phone good.

I would agree. But, since the GS3 is a popular phone, it will have good dev. community, which inturn = great ROMS w/o Touchwiz bloat

I find it a little ironic, LG dumbphones where great, their smartphones not so much, and it's the exact reverse for Samsung, their dumbphones were not that great but they have really good smartphones

Nah, LG never made any good dumbphones. I had one, and my friends had some LG flip models/sliders, and they just all sucked. LG's dumbphones suck, and their smartphones suck. They just need to exit the mobile industry. Samsung makes decent smartphones, and their dumbphones were good enough.
