Or the Apple II... Oregon Trail, Lemonade Stand, Number Munchers, Oil Baron... damn, I should have written about those in the original article instead :D
The memories that stand out are the ones where I played with my brother, though, so I guess that's why I thought of it first. We were always co-op partners, or would watch each other play through single-player games.

Oh yeah! Oregon Trail! I played that at elementary school for some reason on Macs :p
And Number Munchers sounds so familiar...
omg yes!

The first game i played is Pong on a dedicated Pong machine.

But the first game that blew my mind and made me a "gamer" is the first Mega Man.

Repton on the Acorn Electron Plus 3. I apparently played with a Spectrum and Commodore 64 before that but I don't remember them.

Super Mario Bros :)

I played Adventure Island on an arcade machine before (that's what made my mom buy me a NES) but I don't really remember

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee on the Playstation. Fell in love with it. First PC game I played was Unreal Tournament which I also loved

Holy colours and 3D-ness, Batman! :D
We had the monochrome green-screen with lines only. I can't find any images like that, this is the closest:

Imagine that, but in all green, or amber xD

not 100% sure my first game, but was likely with my first computer (Comodore 64). The two games I remember playing were:

And

Jumpman

I remember we had joysticks for the input (along with the keyboard). I remember taking the knobs off the joysticks.

I would love to bust out my N64 and play it but the joysticks on those controllers all wore out so I have to resort to emulators :(

My first gaming experience (as far as I can remember) took place on an Atari 2600 that my dad brought back home from a garage sale when I was roughly five years old. The joysticks and paddles were beat up, you had to blow into the cartridges to make them run (although I suppose the effectiveness of that approach is up for debate), and there were virtually no instruction manuals to speak of (and of course, no Internet access to fall back on). Still though, it was awesome. As for the first game that I bought, it might have been Asteroids, Combat (that tank game), Pitfall, or something along those lines.

The very first experience, if it can be called one, was back in 1995 at the school. Some kind of formula racing on a PC (probably). Though I was allowed just to press some buttons, crash and that's it - other, older kids took over, crowded the place and I lost interest pretty soon.
Later, 1996, my uncle had a NES hardware clone going by the name of Zhiliton. Most likely the famous Duck Hunt was the very first game, most likely because of the gun. I mean - you can shoot at the telly and things happen - how awesome is that! And, of course, I later beat my uncle's records by standing close to the telly and just shooting the wretched things as soon as they appeared
There were some other, too - some kind of Kung Fu I totally sucked at, Tetris, Lode Runner and a truly lame casino he used to play himself the most for some reason. No Super Mario, Mega Man or any other "classics" till much later when some more involved friends from school lent me some games - new cartridges were really expensive, I don't remember buying any on my own.

My very first game was Tekken 3 on the PlayStation.
