things slowing way down again this morning

FYI we may have a faulty SQL server which is being checked atm

OH and we have someone from Japan leeching the site to annoy us (over 500Gb a month)

Thanks for the heads up. Can't their IP be blocked like Javik said?

My question is this.....why does the board run decent while you are viewing posts but runs so poorly when you are posting? Because that's when I see most of my slowness, when I am trying to post.

could be a bad index setup where it has to do a lot of page splits to put the new item into the index tree... SQL Server can be brought to its knees if indexes are setup wrong and your fill factors are planned wrong, work great for reads, but suck for writes... performance tuning at high load volumns can get tricky

it just took me 10 seconds to post that last comment... it's starting to slow down again

Yeah, I have been checking that and will look at it again once our 2nd sql server is up and running again.

It has something to do with IPB because minispy updates fairly quick once you hit post, after that begins the wait

Redmak I was just coming in here to post that. It looks like the commit actually happens almost instantly as I can open a new window to that thread and my post is there, but it seems like nothing reports for a while to the initial request that it is completed.

It seems to majorly speed up when Adblocking is enabled. Not up to standard levels but still a bit.

Yeah the ads do slow down but we need them to survive ;)

No, it's really IPB. I'll look at the code again

This is to be expected with one sql server offline (even though it wasn't running at full speed to begin with)

I'm slowly losing menus at the top of the site, buttons have no names, this is in FF

In IE, it tells me IE refreshed Neowin because of compatibility but it never displays the site, just a white screen

Anybody else found it unbearably slow at points this afternoon? Some pages just won't load at all.
