Notch reacts to a Neowin article: 'Don't be a goat rapist'

@Leo.... all you do is attack windows 8 and attack Microsoft and blindly defend notch even though he's dead wrong and all he is doing is alienating his fans that use windows 8 and wanna play his game.... how hard is it to understand that if you're a developer that expects people to pay for your app that you must support it and must sacrifice a little to please your customers....

cat, don't bother with them. Nothing you say is going to change their mind.

This will be my last post on anything Notch related, as far as I'm conserned he can build his own OS if he doesn't like what MS is doing, of course that OS would be built on Java so It would be funny to see how that works out for him.

I gave an example of an enterprise making a bad decision.... like you are in defending java when it's terribly flawed.

Just becuase a company uses it and "gets along fine" with it doesn't mean it's good.

they may say they are getting along fine with it to please shareholders or whatever when they really might hate it...

OK, how is Java a bad decision for enterprise, what option do you actually have ? because this should be entertaining.

and yes, enterprise programming not only relies almost exclusively on Java, it's the best choice for them. and they don't just get along fine, they are far more stable, reliable and performance oriented than any systems you use.

I''ve yet to see ANY valid arguments why Java is bad.

of course it's your last post, you just realized you don't have an argument and can't argue it. it's not about changing minds, I don't think Java s best for everything, and I think it's a terrible choice for a game, I don't however think Java is universally bad, Not do I believe it's only good for enterprise. for enterprise however it's pretty much a defining standard with no real competition in quality or reliability as yet. and for many parts of the world Java is used very reliably for secure bank ID logons. It's chosen for this for the very same reason it's used in enterprise, but is annoying a bit because of the constant requirement of clients to update their java and certain browsers inability to properly communicate with Java.

The language lacks a lot of stuff, the standard library is often a bit weird, it has tons of security vulnerabilities and a bad versioning system, and it's no better than .NET in other aspects.

Tons of security vulnerabilities? The ones it "had" get patched. As for how many are there you don't know about. You don't know and can't make such a claim, not without saying the same thing about every other language and system out there as well, so, not valid.

The rest is pretty much personal subjective opinions. And to really good reasons for saying its bad.

As far as I can see, Microsoft has nothing better to do than to copy Apple here. They introduce App Stores, and you'll see more and more restrictions on the software you can install. Why would it go the opposite way?

If the userbase doesn't like it, it probably will. Everything comes down to whether or not Windows users like the idea of losing the legacy Windows interface. If they don't want to lose it, then I could easily see Metro going the way of Windows Media Center.

Java is considered bad because its somewhat bloated. Aside from that, people still use Java.

If the security of your servers depends on the installation or not of the jvm you're doing it wrong.

Emn1ty, do you doubt that the mobility focused Generation n00b won't make that trade-off in a heartbeat?

I don't know, honestly its not about the "mobility focused" generation when we are talking desktop PC's/laptops. That's a different audience and also contains many demographics. I don't even know if Metro will work well without a touch interface since I have yet to use it. So it could be that it is ahead of its time for Desktops.

I'm talking about it from an user's point of view.

Having to install a runtime that gets patched every month or so because tens of critical flaws are found, and then managing all the Java versions, is a pain.

I honestly don't feel at risk with the jvm installed as long as the browser plug in is not installed.

I agree the browser pluging and applet support would be better dead.

But the jvm itself is okay and for multiplatform dev it's a good option.

Browser don't really need a plugin to use your java install. It uses your regular java path.

Either way you shouldn't be to worried, it's easy enough to notice if a website tries to load java and if you're on a no trustworthy site you just go back.
